This research tried to recognize the present condition of discussion and academic research on dancesport in Korea, and extend its field of academic significance through the discussion on the change in the value of dancesport due to the change in society and the present condition of academic studies on such issue. Dancesport was considered to be unsound back in the days, and therefore no academic researches were done on it. However, it is certain that dancesport is now on a positive academic track with much interest; this is not a finding of a mere change, but a new academic value given within the chaos of changes in the past and present. The fact that anyone can participate in dancesport makes the science of dancesport not as a work of a particular person, but as a collaboration of many people; and this becomes a basis of hope to many researchers for good results. In the end, it will let dancesport to have good academic results, open the door for new possibilities, and make the connection between the past and the present for the sake of true progress of dancesport. We will be able to know the reasons behind academic errors of dancesport, approach such matters strategically, and result in more mature, various, and profound researches that might resolve scientific disputes.

This paper, based on a qualitative ethnographic study among college of education students, examines the online interactional processes surrounding academic discourse socialization. Data for this paper come from a larger study of an academic classroom community of graduate students and their instructor. In this study, I looked into the ways computer-mediated communication (CMC) contexts factor into graduate students' academic literacy experience in a graduate classroom, therein enculturating them into their new academic community. I focus on cases of nonnative graduate students in a content course in the department of educational psychology at a large southwestern university in the U.S. I explore the agency of the focal participants in terms of the roles they played in the classroom discourse highlighting the dialectical and interactional perspective of academic discourse socialization. This paper focused on the construction of varied participant roles of the focal students. It further examines student reactions and responses to these constructions during synchronous CMC activity.

In this work, we first introduce two main approaches to writing requirements and then propose a method based on Natural Language Processing to improve requirement authoring and the overall coherence, cohesion and organization of requirement documents. We investigate the structure of requirement kernels, and then the discourse structure associated with those kernels. This will then enable the system to accurately extract requirements and their related contexts from texts (called requirement mining). Finally, we relate a first experimentation on requirement mining based on texts from seven companies. An evaluation that compares those results with manually annotated corpora of documents is given to conclude.

This study investigates how digital discourse surrounding Yuseong-gu public libraries is structured and how it informs evidence-based policy architecture. Online text data were collected from major Korean portals (Naver and Daum) between July 2022 and June 2025 using "Yuseong-gu public libraries" as the core search query. The corpus was analyzed using text mining, keyword network analysis, and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling. Word frequency and TF-IDF results indicate that place-anchored identifiers (e.g., Yuseong-gu, Daejeon) and culture-related vocabulary constitute the discourse backbone, while managerial and operational terms such as integration, support, and homepage signal demand for coordinated governance and enhanced digital accessibility. N-gram analysis further emphasizes the demand for an integrated information and participation portal, most clearly reflected in the recurrent sequence "Yuseong-gu-integrated-library-homepage." Network analysis reveals a high-density structure with a short average path length, confirming strong thematic interconnectedness; the node "library" functions as the primary hub and is directly linked to "culture," indicating the library's discursive positioning as a cultural platform. The findings support strategic policy directions, including a hub-satellite spatial system embedded across neighborhood life zones, cross-sectional programming integrating education, culture, and community participation, a mobile-first integrated digital portal, and institutionalized partnerships with schools and local cultural institutions.

Purpose: This study quantitatively examined the portrayal of physician assistant (PA) nurses in Korean media by integrating text network analysis with latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling. Methods: A total of 3,564 news articles published by nine major Korean media outlets between 2020 and 2024 were analyzed. Content analysis was conducted using term frequency-inverse document frequency calculations, network centrality analysis, and LDA topic modeling to extract key terms, map discourse structures, and identify latent topics. Results: The analysis identified four primary topics in Korean media discourse: "healthcare workforce expansion policies" (30.4%), "hospital clinical practice and operational management" (23.5%), "institutionalization of the PA nursing role" (17.8%), and "COVID-19 response and public health crisis management" (28.3%). High-centrality keywords included "hospital," "medical," "patient," "physician," "government," and "nurse," indicating that the discourse primarily focused on clinical settings. Topic modeling revealed a major shift from pandemic-centered coverage in 2020 to a focus on healthcare workforce policy and PA nurse institutionalization in 2024, coinciding with the passage of the Nursing Act. Conclusion: This study provides empirical evidence suggesting that the portrayal of PA nurses in Korean media discourse evolved from a peripheral regulatory issue to a central healthcare delivery solution, particularly in the contexts of workforce management, clinical practice, and crisis response. Our findings suggest that PA nurse institutionalization received broader attention when positioned as part of systemic healthcare improvements addressing concrete clinical needs. These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and administrators in framing and implementing workforce policy reforms.

The area of discourse analysis has long neglected the value of images as a semiotic resource in communication. This paper suggests that like language, images are rich in meaning potential and are governed by visual grammar structures which can be utilized to decode the meanings of images. Employing a theoretical framework in visual communication, two digital images are examined for their representational and interactive dimensions and the dimensions' relation to the magazine advertisement genre. The results show that the framework identified narrative and conceptual processes, relations between participants and viewers, and symbolic attributes of the images, which all contribute to the sociological interpretations of the images. The identities and relationships between viewers and participants suggested in the images signify desirable qualities that may be associated to the product of the advertiser. The findings support the theory of visual grammar and highlight the potential of images to convey multi-layered meanings.

This study explored issues related to the library in the COVID-19 era in YouTube videos in Korea. This study performed social network analysis and topic modeling analysis by collecting 479 YouTube videos, 20,545 words, and 8,379 channels related to COVID-19 and the library from 2019 to 2020. The study results confirmed that YouTube, a social media platform, was used as an important medium to connect users and physical libraries and provide/promote online library services. In the study, major topics and keywords such as quarantine, vlog, and library identity during the COVID-19 pandemic, library services and functions, and introductions and user guides of libraries were derived. Additionally, it was identified that videos about COVID-19 and the library are being produced by various actors (news and media channels, libraries, government agencies, librarians, and individual users). However, the study also identified that the actor network is fragmented through the channel network, showing a low density or weak linkage, and that the centrality of the library in the actor network is weak.

PURPOSE: Text-mining has been shown to be useful for understanding the clinical characteristics and patients' concerns regarding a specific disease. Low back pain (LBP) is the most common disease in modern society and has a wide variety of causes and symptoms. On the other hand, it is difficult to understand the clinical characteristics and the needs as well as demands of patients with LBP because of the various clinical characteristics. This study examined online texts on LBP to determine of text-mining can help better understand general characteristics of LBP and its specific elements. METHODS: Online data from www.spine-health.com were used for text-mining. Keyword frequency analysis was performed first on the complete text of postings (full-text analysis). Only the sentences containing the highest frequency word, pain, were selected. Next, texts including the sentences were used to re-analyze the keyword frequency (pain-text analysis). RESULTS: Keyword frequency analysis showed that pain is of utmost concern. Full-text analysis was dominated by structural, pathological, and therapeutic words, whereas pain-text analysis was related mainly to the location and quality of the pain. CONCLUSION: The present study indicated that text-mining for a specific element (keyword) of a particular disease could enhance the understanding of the specific aspect of the disease. This suggests that a consideration of the text source is required when interpreting the results. Clinically, the present results suggest that clinicians pay more attention to the pain a patient is experiencing, and provide information based on medical knowledge.

In 2013, Japan and Korea celebrated their first food culture registrations with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This paper first reviews the overall situation regarding washoku. Then, the washoku concept is analyzed and we argue that the idea is ambiguous. The washoku concept is contested and not necessarily clearly defined, but certain characteristics exist. The “uniqueness” is emphasized in the UNESCO registration while the reasoning or storyline for applications, such as relationships to nature, traditional preparations, community cohesion are “common” with other applications. The context of registration is frequently misinterpreted, and washoku has certain elements that are responsive to changes, despite its authentic and unchanged popular image. The ambiguity has both positive and negative aspects. It functions as a framework to enable groups with different interests or interpretations to participate in the process.

While kimchi has gained international recognition as a functional food, the ways in which global audiences reinterpret its cultural and scientific significance remain underexplored. To address this gap, this study examines the long-term development of global kimchi discourse within a digital community from 2019 to 2026. Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modeling on a preprocessed corpus of 29,542 documents from the Reddit r/kimchi community, this study identifies changes in thematic focus over time. The results show that early discussions primarily focused on sensory qualities, basic culinary practices, and gastronomic enjoyment. Over time, the conversation shifted toward more technical topics, including microbial ecology, fermentation control, and safety measures. This study highlights the role of online communities as spaces in which traditional culinary knowledge is collectively interpreted, refined, and adapted to contemporary concerns related to health, safety, and sustainability. By tracing the temporal evolution of kimchi discourse in a digital community, this study provides new insights into the globalization of ethnic foods and underscores the importance of digital platforms in shaping the evolving meanings and knowledge systems surrounding traditional food practices.

Twenty years post implementation of the Employment Equity Act; people with disabilities continue to experience high unemployment rates and workforce participation level of less than 50 percent of working age population (15 to 64 years old). The other three designated groups affected by this Act, women, visible minorities and Aboriginal peoples, each has seen a significant increase in workforce participation rates at all levels of the federally regulated workforce; however, people with disabilities have not benefited equally from this law. Other researchers and writers have done a substantial amount of work to identify the reasons why employment and people with disabilities appear to be incompatible, and to identify employment-related barriers. This paper will build on the knowledge published by preceding writers, but instead of focussing on employment barriers, it will focus on factors which can enable over 800,000 self-identified employees with disabilities to be currently employed in the Canadian workforce. More specifically, this research will evaluate several key components of the work environment, and then, it will review biographical records of people with disabilities who are successfully employed despite being confronted by existing barriers. The objective of this work is to draw conclusions about success factors which are instrumental for some persons with disabilities to thrive in the competitive world of work. The researcher anticipates identification of these success factors may be used by other persons with disabilities to achieve similar positive outcomes in employment, thus increasing the workforce participation rate in line with the members of the other three equity groups designated in the Employment Equity Act

Purpose: The global significance of the nursing workforce is widely recognized; however, in physiciandominated healthcare systems, interprofessional boundary conflicts can limit nursing autonomy andhinder efforts to expand its scope of practice. This study examines discourse network dynamics aroundnursing legislation in South Korea over two decades, focusing on policy-actor interactions and issuediversification during periods of legislative deadlock and eventual breakthrough. Methods: We conducted a longitudinal discourse network analysis of 2,876 parliamentary speechesfrom the South Korean National Assembly across three periods: deadlock (2005?2006), transition (2019?2023), and breakthrough (2024). Latent Dirichlet allocation identified eight topics. Two network typeswere constructed: actor networks based on coparticipation in meetings and issue networks based ontopic similarity. Network-level metrics (density and centralization) and node-level centrality measureswere calculated. Results: Actor network density increased from 0.545 (deadlock) to 0.663 (breakthrough), whilecentralization decreased from 0.050 to 0.012 (transition), indicating a shift from concentrated control todistributed connectivity. Betweenness centrality shifted from concentration among experts (deadlock:0.545) to distribution among legislators (breakthrough: 0.024 for both progressive and conservativeparties), indicating structural changes in brokerage patterns. Issue network density remained stable atapproximately 0.500 across all periods, suggesting consistent discourse content despite substantialchanges in interaction patterns. Conclusion: Policy breakthrough coincided with structural changes in the actor network, characterizedby higher density, lower centralization, and distributed brokerage across ideological divides. Thesefindings advance methodology through discourse network analysis of nursing legislation, offer theoretical insights into network restructuring during policy change, and provide practical guidance forhealthcare workforce advocacy in contexts of professional boundary conflicts.

Considering the significant role of global media in shaping public discourse on international phenomena, this research examines the representation of K-pop in global news media. A corpus-assisted discourse analysis was conducted on news reports about K-pop from 2005 to 2021, focusing on two major global news outlets: BBC and CNN. The study uncovers key agendas and dominant patterns in the portrayal of K-pop by these news sources. The findings indicate that K-pop was presented as a 'cultural commodity,' strategically crafted and promoted by the South Korean government, which utilized the country's advanced technology to enhance its export potential and national image. Furthermore, the analysis reveals a tendency towards conflict-centric narratives in the global news discourse about K-pop, addressing a variety of issues. While BBC news tended to emphasize disputes, highlighting the reactions of the Chinese public on Weibo to controversial incidents involving K-pop stars and South Korea's military advancements, CNN's discourse centered on K-pop fans as socio-political agents, engaging in significant events such as Trump's rallies and the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States. Drawing on these insights, this article critically assesses the role and impact of global news media in constructing the narrative of 'non-Western' popular culture.

It is familiar to blame not the U.S. but North Korea for the ongoing security crisis on Korean peninsula. Nonetheless, to raise the question of ‘who benefits at whose costs’ helps to cast doubts on such a conventional wisdom. The author attempts thus to identify the possible symbiotic relationship between foreign policy and the press by employing the method of ‘Critical Discourse Analysis.’ To be specific, while articulating geopolitical contexts which underwrite media’s discourses, it tries to identify discursive tactics by dissecting them into logos, pathos and ethos. Especially for this, total number of 407 articles collected from the New York Times, Washington Post and LA Times by differing time from 2001 to 2017 was analyzed. This study produces the following results. First of all, there were plenty of reasons for the U.S. presidents including George Bush II, Obama and Trump not to engage actively in peace talks. Such motivations as blocking Asian unity, enhancing military interests and reassuring the U.S. leadership were found. Secondly, the media’s positions materialized through frames, phrases and policy options fit nicely with those of the U.S. government. While neglecting to unveil contexts and truths, in the end, those media are persistent in portraying North Korea as a ‘Devil’ applied uncritically to other rogue states like Iran and Syria. The author suggests shedding fresh lights on the continuity of ‘propaganda war’ initiated primarily by the U.S. in the field of international communication.
Although Thomas Hobbes is a great scholar and there has been enormous amount of research on his philosophy throughout various countries, we do not have much knowledge about Hobbes’s early days. The main purpose of this paper is twofold. First, the political and legal philosophy of Thomas Hobbes in his early days was examined. Through this examination I try to clarify if there was any ‘epistemological break’ between the young Hobbes and the mature Hobbes. Secondly, this paper attempted to shed a light on the debate developed by many Hobbes scholars such as Leo Strauss and Howard Warrender. The debate was mainly the relationship between Hobbes’s legal and political philosophy and his idea of ‘new science’.

The Maa pee^+Low-tone construction corresponds to a wide array of adverbial and complement clause notions, including temporal, conditional, purpose, result, motivation, utterance complements, and subjunctive mood. The pattern of senses found in discourse argues that the construction actually codes only that the dependent clause proposition is "temporally related" (in an extended sense) to its matrix proposition. Comprehenders must interpret more specific relations based on stored knowledge and textually-overt lexical items.

Addresses delivered by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, during the Russia Ukraine war have drawn worldwide attention and have been considered persuasive. The purpose of this study is to analyze President Zelenskyy’s discourse from the perspective of critical discourse analysis (CDA). Specifically, with the help of CDA, this study explores what linguistic and discoursal strategies he has employed to persuade others to achieve his goals. This paper also examines how these strategies have become persuasive by exploring three key elements of Aristotle’s theory of rhetoric: logos, ethos, and pathos; how social and political situations are reflected in his speeches is also assessed. To this end, this study analyzes three speeches made by President Zelenskyy to the European Parliament, the U.S. Congress, and the Japanese Parliament. The findings show that President Zelenskyy has used three persuasive strategies (lexical choices, grammatical structure, and evoking history) and has achieved partial success in receiving financial, political, and humanitarian support from other countries.
