This study aimed to describe the process of building an allergic rhinitis practice-based research network (PBRN) in Korean Medicine clinics, identify barriers, and propose solutions for future PBRN studies. The PBRN study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of “decoction forms of herbal medicine,” which are difficult to study through clinical trials in South Korea. Based on the research experience of this study, seven solutions were proposed. It is necessary to develop a plan for KM doctors to increase their understanding of research, collect comprehensive endpoint data, and set widely applicable study designs. There is also a need to create mandatory research monitoring plans and foster networking among PBRN participants. Before participating in the study, rehearsal programs for new KM doctors and close relationships between primary care doctors and researchers will help ensure a successful PBRN clinical study. PBRNs can be an effective platform for providing KM clinical data and a source of KM big data. Given the growing demand for evidence-based practices in KM, clinical studies conducted in KM clinics are likely to be actively pursued in the future.

The purpose of this study is to find out the herb-pair combination and basic herbal formula composed of Cannabis Semen (⿇仁) written in ‘Sheng ji zong lu (聖濟總錄).’ To search for herb-pair combination and basic herbal formula of Cannabis Semen (⿇仁), we analyzed the fifteen most frequently mentioned major indication symptoms of Cannabis Semen in Sheng ji zong lu, the Chinese classical medical literature. Among the associated herbal formulae for treating major indication symptoms, if there is a high-frequency drug pair, we set it as a herb-pair, and when herb-pair have constituted a herbal formula, we set it as a basic herbal formula. We have found three basic herbal formulas including Cannabis Semen for treating major indication symptoms. We have found six herb-pairs including Cannabis Semen for treating major indication symptoms. In some major indication symptoms, we could not find any herb-pairs or basic herbal formulas including Cannabis Semen. Basic herbal formulas composed of Cannabis Semen are Maindaihuang-huan (Marendahuang-wan, ⿇仁⼤⿈丸) and Yunjang-huan (Runchang-wan, 潤腸丸), which treat constipation, Maindaihuang-huan (Marendahuang-wan, ⿇仁⼤⿈丸) which treats flaccidity of lower limbs, and Gamcho-san (Gancao-san, ⽢草散) which treats diseases related to child delivery. Cannabis Semen forms herb-pair and the basic herbal formula with the following herbs: Rhei Rhizoma (⼤⿈), Ginseng Radix (⼈蔘), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (枳殼), Saposhnikoviae Radix (防⾵), Saigae Tataricae Cornu (羚⽺⾓), Gardeniae Fructus (梔⼦仁), Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba (⽩朮).
