This study analyzed the interactive functions of Korean dispreferred responses based on spoken language data from YouTube talk shows. Given that dispreferred responses employ strategic mechanisms that coordinate knowledge, identity, and social relations, we examined contextual variations. Discourse contexts were categorized into public, private first-encounter, and private intimacy discourses, based on social distance and interaction purpose. The data were drawn from the YouTube talk shows “The People”, “Dex’s Cold Interview”, and “Pinggyego”. Using conversation analysis, adjacency pairs with dispreferred responses were extracted, coded, and comparatively analyzed across three dimensions. The results revealed distinct context-dependent strategic differences in dispreferred responses. In public contexts, speakers focused on securing professional authority and maintaining a collaborative distance through objective evidence and analytic identity. Conversely, in private contexts, they used personal experiences and shared narratives as the basis of knowledge. However, in first-time encounters, they demonstrated authenticity through exposure to vulnerability, and in intimate relationships, they employed an active solidarity strategy by constructing an mutual identity through simulated informality. Furthermore, speakers actively used dispreferred responses to secure discourse control and build intimacy. This study is significant because it moves beyond discussions of normative politeness and concretizes the interactional functions of actual Korean conversations.

For this purpose, discourse analysis method is applied to corpus data arranged from 19c․20c novels, dramas, movies and talk show progra. The results of this study presents : (1) ‘tae-mun’ has begun to be used as a connective expression from the end of 19c with other causative expressions like ‘ka-dak’ and ‘jon-cha’ and in the early of 20c, ‘tae-mun’ has been used as a sentence ending expression at the same time. (2) ‘tae-mun’ expressions has syntactic restricts rarely and it makes the wider use of ‘tae-mun’. (3) Through analyzing the discourse data, the interactive functions of ‘tae-mun’ are analyzed in terms of two big categories of [reason] and [justification] in spoken discourse context. These basic discourse functions can be sub-categorized into specific functions like [excuse], [persist], and [information] depending on the syntactic or pragmatic features and the state of the information which preceding and following phrases contain. (4) This phenomenon suggests the meaning of a certain grammatical expression is not fixed but keeps on changing in discourse.

On the synchronic plane of modern Chinese, "you benshi(有本事)" is an expression of both positive and negative semantic deviation. It mainly includes two types of usage, one is the positive semantic offset usage, its structure is "you(有) + benshi(本事)", is a positive evaluation, expressing the meaning of "ability", such "you benshi(有本事)" is unmarked. The other kind of "you benshi(有本事)" is the negative semantic deviation usage, which has been standardized into a whole, emerging the negative semantic and function, constructing the diverse-negative position, is a kind of marked usage. This kind of "youbenshi(有本事)" generally has a dependence on the conversational context, usually appears in the conversational response sequence context, and has a strong dependence on the implicit assumption relationship. "Youbenshi(有本事)" to use seemingly requested or proposed speech strategies and syntactic resources in essence to negate the other person's behavior, speech, etc. In the context, there are contradictions or emotional stimuli between the two parties involved in the event at a certain point, and the speaker negates the other party's behavior, speech or opinion through "youbenshi(有本事)" and the subsequent content X guided by it, so as to safeguard his own interests, emotions or face and achieve the purpose of conveying his real verbal intention. The content of the "youbenshi(有本事)" subsequent sentences has the characteristic of imperative, which can be reflected in the syntactic resources selected by the speaker and constituted by the subsequent sentences. In terms of syntactic resource selection and representation, the imperative of subsequent sentences can be divided into two categories: imperative blocking and imperative promoting. "Youbenshi implicit negation(有本事隐性否定)" adopts the indirect negation mode of "aggressive antagonism", which has the interactive pragmatic function of constructing the speaker's difference-negative position, guiding negative response and transmitting strong attitude emotion.
