As tiles are getting larger in size nowadays, interior ceramic tiles are often partly broken near joints and regularly cracked on the surface - Tile Side Breakage - after the attachment. In this study, large bathroom in real size was built to measure bond strength and ratio of length change, observe cracks and breakages with naked eye, and conduct the freeze-thaw experiment. Then, these factors were analyzed to identify the cause of Side Breakage and suggest the preventive measure. As a result, cement mortar enhances bond strength of the tile and resistance to cracks, and the more edges which is open, the more cracks tiles develop. Also, the installation of silicon expansion joints is considered as the most effective prevention method of Side Breakage.

Recently, global warming problem is a major issue in international community. The carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the construction industry is one of the main factors causing a global warming problem. Accordingly, various researches on CO2 emissions caused by the construction industry is needed and construction methods which is low CO2 emission should be developed. In this study, CO2 emission cost is compared with tile work types in construction phase. As a result, the CO2 emission costs of tile work is the highest. This project basic information for selecting appropriate construction methods in aspect of low CO2 emission cost.

The use of waste materials such as ceramics as a building material alternative is gaining popularity these days. While someother ceramic product wastes, like sanitary wares and electrical insulators, have received substantial research, ceramic walland floor tile wastes have received less attention. As a consequence, the focus of the research is on the mechanicalcharacterisation of aggregate concrete made from waste ceramic wall and floor tiles. Ceramic wastes were collected frombuilding and demolition sites and reduced to required size using a quarry metal hammer. According to industry standards,ceramic tiles were sieved into fine and coarse particles. Slump test was order to evaluate the fresh concrete workability. Theimpact of ceramic tile waste on the mechanical and micro level characteristics in concrete is the focus of this study. Concreteutilising ceramic waste as a substitute for cement and aggregate was found to have better mechanical properties. It wasdiscovered that the usage of ceramic waste in the building industry not only lowers the construction materials cost, but alsoaids in the attainment of sustainability.

The area inside the apartment building where tiles are installed is applied as a finishing material for walls and floors, including exterior walls, balconies, hallways, bathrooms, and kitchens. As it is constructed in various spaces, differences in the type and period of occurrence of tile defects may appear, which is caused by heterogeneous characteristics between materials and external causes. Therefore, in this study, two-way ANOVA was used to figure out the relationship between the defect occurrence type and the period depending on the type of tile construction in the apartment building.
