Purpose: To identify factors influencing heat-illness prevention behaviors among construction workers, focusing on awareness of perceived-temperature measurement, recognition of temperature difference/necessity, experience of work adjustment or stoppage, and prevention awareness. Methods: In May 2025, 199 workers (aged 20–64) from six construction sites in Pyeongtaek, Korea, completed a mobile survey during routine safety education. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple regression were performed (SPSS/WIN 25.0; α=.05). Results: Prevention behaviors were higher among those aware of perceived-temperature measurement (t=2.72, p=.007). Prevention behaviors correlated with recognition of temperature difference/necessity (r=.303, p<.001), work adjustment/stoppage (r=.612, p<.001), and prevention awareness (r=.844, p<.001). Multiple regression indicated that prevention awareness (β=.686, p<.001), work adjustment/stoppage (β=.261, p<.001), and awareness of perceived-temperature measurement (β=.093, p=.014) significantly predicted prevention behaviors (F=41.53, p<.001; adjusted R²=.766). Conclusion: Enhancing prevention awareness, institutionalizing temperature monitoring, and formalizing work-adjustment/stoppage procedures may strengthen preventive behaviors at construction sites.

Purpose: This study highlights the need for more standardized safety procedures in university hospitals and suggests further research and policy development to address these gaps. Methods: Aging university hospitals often undergo remodeling to stay competitive with newer institutions. However, these renovations pose significant risks to patients, staff, and visitors since operations must continue without interruption. In order to enhance risk management during university hospital remodeling projects, a comparison with the manufacturing industry was conducted to identify areas for improvement. Result: A comparison between safety management in university hospitals and manufacturing sectors revealed key differences. University hospitals have safety protocols under the Medical Act, but they lack specific guidelines for safety management during remodeling. In contrast, the manufacturing industry follows stringent safety procedures, such as Process Safety Management (PSM), during renovations. A fact-finding survey of six university hospitals and six manufacturing companies revealed that while manufacturing companies had consistent safety procedures, university hospitals showed significant variability. Conclusion: Key safety procedures such as “Safety management regulations,” “Safety education before remodeling,” “Pre-construction risk assessments,” “Safety inspections during remodeling,” and “Safety work permit operations” were inconsistently applied across the hospitals.Based on this comparison, a new “safety management procedure during remodeling of university hospitals” was proposed. The goal is to align university hospital safety procedures with those used in manufacturing, ensuring a uniform and high level of safety management.

Purpose : The present study was conducted to contribute to the improvement of safety in construction sites by investigating the implementation of risk assessment in the construction industry. Methods : This study analyzed whether the risk assessment of construction sites was carried out using the data of the 10th Occupational Safety and Health Survey. Factors associated with conducting risk assessments included health examination results, provision of education, operation of health and safety teams, and awareness of the risk of labor unions and field workers. We measured the correlation between these factors and the execution of risk assessments, and analyzed the data using logistic regression and chi-square tests. Results : As a result of the study, it was confirmed that there was a significant relationship with the risk assessment of construction sites, general and special health checkups, provision of safety and health education, and the existence of safety and health teams. This indicates that the active participation of employers in conducting health checks, providing training, and effectively operating safety and health teams is closely related to the implementation of risk assessments. However, there was no statistically significant correlation between the existence of trade unions and the perception of workers' risks and the implementation of risk assessments. Conclusion : This study investigates and provides important information that can contribute to improving the safety of construction sites by examining the relationship between the implementation of risk assessment and safety management factors. The survey found that general health checkups, special health checkups, safety and health education, and residence of safety and health teams are closely related to the implementation of risk assessment at construction sites. These factors can improve the safety and health of the construction site. However, workers' perception of risk and the existence of unions do not have a significant impact on risk assessment enforcement rates. This suggests that construction workers are aware of the risks but may not actively participate in risk assessments. Therefore, the construction industry needs to strengthen general health checkups, special health checkups, provision of safety and health education, and formation and operation of safety and health teams. In addition, efforts should be made to improve the awareness of workers' participation in health and safety and to develop education and communication programs so that they can actively participate in risk assessment. These measures will help strengthen the safety of construction sites and ensure the welfare of workers.
