In order to guarantee interoperability among home network appliances and devices using heterogeneous network technologies and different applications, alliances of worldwide major companies developed and commercialized home network middlewares. Some of them were already published as international standards, and some are still in the standardization process. However, it finally causes another interoperable problem among these home network middlewares. In this paper, the architecture of a chip that can be used in a home gateway or each home network device to provide interoperability between two heterogeneous home network middlewares, is designed and proposed.

Customary network migration to Next Generation Networks (NGN) is due to service integration and low cost of the offered services in NGN. NGN is based on an IP/MPLS backbone through which all traffics pass. Besides, different mobile generations up to R99 UMTS are all based on the circuit switch systems. Thus the connections to NGN may cause some challenges. In this paper, to provide these connections, we review mobile systems characteristics in addition to a new Base Station System by the name Base Station Gateway.

The fingerprint verification methods include minutiae-based and image-based methods. The minutiae-based method has been frequently used, but it has limitations in performance. These days, there have been many studies on enhancement of performance using another information rather than minutiae. This paper analyzed changes in performance according to size and form of binary fingerprint images to be compared for analysis performance of imagebased fingerprint verification method. Based on the experiment results, verification performance was superior as there many compare areas. Security performance was superior when comparing the center of a fingerprint.

Mobility of nodes is an important issue in mobile adhoc networks (MANET). Nodes in MANET move from one network to another individually and in the form of group. In single node mobility scheme every node performs registration individually in new MANET whereas in group mobility scheme only one node in a group i.e group representative (GR) performs registration on behalf of all other nodes in the group and is assigned Care of Address (CoA). Internet protocol (IP) of all other nodes in the group remains same. Our simulated results prove that group mobility scheme reduces number of messages and consumes less time for registration of nodes as compared to single node mobility scheme. Thus network load is reduced in group mobility scheme. This research paper evaluates the performance of group mobility with single node mobility scheme. Test bed for this evaluation is based on Network Simulator 2 (NS-2) environment.

Fuzzy Gaussian mixture modeling method is proposed in this paper for network anomaly detection. A mixture of Gaussian distributions was used to represent the network data in multi-dimensional feature space. Gaussian parameters were estimated using fuzzy c-means estimation. The method was tested with the KDD Cup data set. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method is more effective than the vector quantization method.

The IEEE 802.11e standard guarantees QoS in the MAC layer by using new HCF (Hybrid Coordination Function) protocol. The HCF is composed of two access functions: A distributed contention-based channel access function (EDCA) providing prioritized QoS and a cen-tralized polling-based channel access function (HCCA) providing para-meterized QoS. In this paper, we propose a new scheduling algorithm for HCCA to support QoS. The proposed scheduler guarantees QoS by using adaptive service intervals, transmission opportunities, and polling order. The service schedule is based not only on the tra±c's TSPEC parameters but also on the instance bu®ered tra±c conditions and transmission de-lay of other tra±c. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling algorithm is superior to the existing TGe Reference scheduler, SETT-EDD, and ARROW algorithms in terms of throughput, transmission delay and jitter.

Currently, there are several wireless networks deployed around the world. Examples include cellular networks, metropolitan area networks, wireless local area networks, and personal area networks. The combination of all these networks is usually called the beyond 3G (B3G) wireless networks. New state-of-the-art mobile terminals will allow users to freely move and to switch connections among different access networks. This process named vertical handover imposes important technical challenges for the emerging B3G wireless networks. In this paper, first the vertical handover is classified and its difference with the traditional horizontal handover is explained. Our contributions to this research field with focus on the vertical handover decision process are mentioned together with a suitable survey of related work in this area.

In this paper, we obtain the optimal number of interfaces/channels in wireless mesh networks by simulation. The simulation study is done in static multi-channel multi-interface environment. When many nodes use a single interface/channel, collisions of RTS/CTS result in network performance degradation. To avoid such degradation and reduce interference among adjacent nodes, use of multi-interface/channel is considered. 802.11a and 802.11b offer 12 and 3 orthogonal channels and multi-interface/channel scheme could be applied. But rare research about the optimal number of interfaces/channels has been studied. In this paper, simulation study for the optimal number of interfaces/channels in wireless mesh network is performed.

Multi-path routing has been studied widely in wired networks. Multipath routing is known to increase end-to-end throughput and provide load balancing in wired networks. However, its advantage is not obvious in wireless multi-hop network because the traffic along the multiple paths may interfere with adjacent paths. In the paper, we introduce a new multi-path routing scheme, Cluster-Based Multi-Path Routing for multi-hop wireless networks. The main idea of the proposed routing scheme is to extend the hop-by-hop multi-path to a cluster-by-cluster multi-path. In cluster network, each cluster can work independently from other clusters and hence reduce interference. The purpose of the proposed scheme is to find a less interfering path for wireless multi-hop networks. We also showed the throughput improvement of the proposed scheme through simulations.

Frequency Identification (RFID) systems enable serivces such as information exchange among objects, position tracking, and remote processing and mangment by attaching electronic tags to objects, collecting data from the objects, and processing the data. RFID needs interface environment and network structure that make it easy to use microsensor technologies and information communication devices for communication between humans and objects and between objects in addition to existing communication between humans. The application of RFID technology is going beyond forward logistics, which is the delivery of manufactured goods to consumers, and being expanded, though not frequently yet, to reverse logistics, which includes return, recovery, reuse, reproduction and disposal. The present study purposed to propose middleware platform and framework by applying RFID technology to reverse logistics.

Feature selection is as important for intrusion detection as it is for many other problems. A feature selection algorithm can help system administrators to identify and detect new network attacks efficiently since appropriately chosen features can improve accuracy of intrusion detection significantly as well as can decrease computational overheads of intrusion detection systems. This paper describes a new proposed feature selection algorithms in detecting intrusions using network audit trails. The proposed method is based on our definition of cluster distance to select good features, and advantages of the proposed feature selection method include independence of data formats (e.g., continuous data or discrete data), suitability for binary classification, and improved intrusion detection accuracy. Experimental results using KDDCup99 datasets show that the proposed model can improve intrusion detection accuracy, compared to other algorithms.

Critical Infrastructures are so vital that a damage or breakage of it will greatly affect the society and economy. SCADA systems play a big role on Critical Infrastructure since most of these infrastructures are controlled systems. Presented in this paper are the vulnerabilities of a SCADA system, its effect to the society and the ways to prevent such vulnerabilities. Also, the background of the SCADA system and its difference to the common computer system is discussed.

In this paper we present a technique to allocate bandwidth to the clients as per the privileges. It means basically that each user can buy bandwidth which will be available as a premium, high and normal class bandwidth. As per the class a user buys he will be given a username and password. Using this username and password he will authenticate himself to the server. The server then provides bandwidth to that user for running the applications which fall within the bandwidth range of that class. The server queues all the packets coming to it from the internet connection and then sends them out on a priority basis which is defined by the class each user falls into.
