In Between Biological and Mechanical Mechanisms : Posthuman Spirituality in “After Yang”

The science fiction film “After Yang” explores the emotional impact of losing a highly anthropomorphic "cultural parenting robot" on a family. In modern society, people's lives are becoming more fast-paced, and the pressures of marriage and child-parenting are significant, leading to an increasing number of single-person households. As strong artificial intelligence (AI) non-human substrates, through mechanical learning, store memories, generate emotions based on algorithms, and replace human family members in providing companionship and emotional support, the distinction between whether the emotional value we experience originates from biological or mechanical mechanisms will blur and become irrelevant. From the film “After Yang” , in which the robot “Yang” develops human-like physiological and social needs - love and sex, we further apply the Epistemic Asymmetry between the First Person and the Second-or-Third Person theory of skepticism and the Inverted Spectrum theory to explore whether the human ontology, in believing that AI robots are incapable of having an emotional experience due to their non-biological nature, still leaves open the possibility that the robots may have another emotional and mindfulness experience that cannot be perceived by humans. If we are able to recognize this, it may help to break away from the limitations of anthroposupremism and inspire deeper thinking and reflection among those who show a tendency towards racial discrimination under the post-human spirit.
