The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of referential dependencies in elliptical contexts. The facts of elliptical dependencies can be accounted for by two representational innovations. First, ellipsis is analyzed as the sharing of identically-composed thematic-structure between the overt structure and the corresponding null structure. Second, the two relations of referential dependency, link and obviate, are generalized to hold between positions in the thematic-structure as well as positions in the phrase-structure. The counter-example is that the null structure is not an independent copy of the overt structure. A copy operation naturally makes two predictions; neither holds in VPE. To resolve this problem, that copying is both necessary and impossible, I propose that the invisible VP shares the thematic-structure of the overt VP, but not its phrase-structure or phonology.

Histogram thresholding is one of the most popular image segmentation techniques. Variance-based thresholding is a famous method in which. In this paper, a new method based the framework of two-dimensional gray level histogram and class variance criterion is proposed. The methodology for image segmentation using two-dimensional histogram and variance criterion is elaborated firstly. Then the algorithm of the presented scheme is realized through recursion. Finally, the proposed method is tested on synthetic and real-world images. Experimental results show that the proposed method is better to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional variance-based methods, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the experiments.

교육에서 수월성의 문제가 처음 제기된 문제는 아니지만 국가 간의 경쟁력이란 차원에서뿐만 아니라 교육환경의 개선이란 차원에서도 현대사회에서 창의적인 사고력을 지닌 학생의 교육이 무엇보다 강조되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 정보 영재의 교육 중에서 프로그래밍을 위한 사고력 신장에 적합한 교수-학습 모형 개발 및 적용에 목적을 두고 있다. 제안된 교수-학습 모형에서 자료구조로는 트리를 구성하고 제어구조로는 recursion 개념을 학습하도록 하고 있다. 정보 영재 지도에 도입할 수 있는 가능성을 모색하기 위해 교수-학습 모형을 현장에 적용하여 교육 프로그램 개발의 타당성을 검증한다. 예제로 선택한 하노이 타워를 트리로 구성하는 방법과 트리 탐색의 방법으로서 recursion 개념을 적용하는 교수-학습 활동으로 사고력 신장을 위한 교육 프로그램 개발의 타당성을 검증한다.

We obtain recursion formulas for q-hypergeometric and q-Appell series. We also find recursion formulas for the general double q-hypergeometric series. It is shown that these recursion relations can be expressed in terms of q-derivatives of the respective q-hypergeometric series.

This paper continues the study of recursion formulas of multivariable hypergeometric functions. Earlier, in [4], the authors have given the recursion formulas for three variable Lauricella functions, Srivastava's triple hypergeometric functions and k-variable Lauricella functions. Further, in [5], we have obtained recursion formulas for the general triple hypergeometric function. We present here the recursion formulas for Exton's triple hypergeometric functions.

We present a convenient recursive formula for the sums of alternating harmonic series of odd order. The recursion is obtained by expanding in Fourier series certain elementary functions.

In this paper, an exponential bound of the distance between a Loop subdivision surface and its control mesh is derived based on the topological structure of the control mesh. The exponential bound is independent of the process of recursive subdivisions and can be evaluated without subdividing the control mesh actually. Using the exponential bound, we can predict the depth of recursion within a user-specified tolerance as well as the error bound after n steps of subdivision. The error-estimating approach can be used in many engineering applications such as surface/surface intersection, mesh generation, NC machining, surface rendering and the like.

Minimal recursion semantics (MRS) is a framework for semantics within HPSG that is considerably suitable for parsing and generation. This paper illustrates the application of MRS into Korean and see how the nonrecursive semantic representation offers us descriptively adequate semantic representations for the various phenomena (including scope ambiguities) in the language.

국소섭동을 포함하는 비대칭성 계의 전자구조 물성을 연구하기 위해서 밀접 결합 (tight-binding ; TB) linear-muffin-tin-orbital(LMTO) 방법과 회귀(recursion ; R) 방법을 결합한 실공간 전자구조 방법인 제일원리-자체충족적-스핀분극 TB-LMTO-R 방법을 개발하였다. 이 방법을 강자성 물질인 bcc Fe, hcp Co, fcc Ni등에 적용하여 송이의 크기, 회귀 계수, TB-LMTO Hamiltonian의 차수등을 변화시키며 국소 상태밀도와 자기 모멘트등의 수치적 수렴도를 고찰하였다. 송이 크기는 5,000개 원자 이상, 연속 분수 계수 n은 40이상, TB-LMTO Hamiltonian의 차수는 2차 이상이며 TB-LMTO-R 방법이 기존의 LMTO 방법의 결과와 거의 일치하는 결과를 준다는 사실을 얻었고 실공간 전자 구조 방법으로 TB-LMTO-R 방법의 충분한 신뢰도를 확인 하였다.

In order to study electronic structures for locally disordered systems, we have developed a first-principle self-con-sistent-spin-polarized real space band method (TB-LMTO-R), which combines the tight-binding(TB) linear-muffin-tin orbital(LMTO) band rrethod and the recursion(R) rrethod. The TB-LMTO-R rrethod has been applied to fer-romagnetic bec Fe, hcp Co, and fcc Ni. With varying cluster sizes, recursion coefficients, and the order of the TB-Hamiltonian, we have calculated the local density of states(LDOS) and magnetic moments. It is found that the calculation with 5,000 atoms cluster, 40 continued fractions, and the second-order TB-Hamiltonian yields a conver¬gent result in agreement with those from the conventional LMTO. In this way, we have demonstrated a physical transparency of the TB-LMTO-R method as a real space description.

We have calculated the electronic structure of impurity atoms in metal host by using the tight binding model in the recursion method. For a self-consistent calculation, we assumed that the effect of impurity introduction was localized only at the impurity site and its neighbours. We calculated the Madelung term by limiting the contribution to Vm of the charge perturbations to the first shell around the impurity with Evjen technique. The calculated local density of states and charge transfer values have been compared with the experimental values for a single impurity in metal host. We fund that d-reso-nance state came from the repulsive interaction between impurity d-state and host band, and the position of d-resonance state depended on the difference of valence electrons between the host and the impurity. the results also showed that the charge transfer value between an impurity and host metal was comparable to the ionicity difference between them.

This paper will investigate the possibility that EFL learners can learn the sentence parsing algorithms. This approach stems from Kim et al.'s (2013, 2014) ERP studies which show some changes of EFL learners' parsing results by educating them English parsing strategies. Referring to these studies, this paper will assume that learning parsing algorithms can lead the results of learning to be changed into getting closer to the level of English L1 speakers. To justify this assumption, this paper will identify the relevant evidence that the essence of the sentence parsing can be learned while we reanalyze EFL leaners' syntactic responses from the previous ERP studies. Furthermore, this paper will also present the theoretical foundation to assume the possibility of learning parsing algorithms resulted from the language recursion: a property of human languages (Hauser et al. 2002, Jackendoff and Pinker 2005, Pinker and Jackendoff 2005). Through this investigation, this paper will claim that, though parsing algorithms vary according to the particular grammars, not only might parsing operations be correlated to the recursion of language, but also parsing algorithms can be learned by EFL learners due to the language property common to human-beings.

This paper is to examine the recursive properties of human language from the biolinguistic perspectives. Biolinguistics attempt to examine the biologically endowed and unique property for human language that enters into the generation and acquisition of language. Hauser et al.(2002) suggest that the recursion is the core and unique feature of the language faculty in the narrow sense. Biolinguistic minimalism attempts to reduce the internal mechanism of recursion to the operation Merge. Recursion yielding the discrete infinity is the internal linguistic system of humans, a part of the human biological components. Hence it is concluded that the recursive computational operation is the unbound Merge for the structure building, although neural/psychological studies as well as the language experiences may present some other views.

이 글은 학제간 학술지 「현상과인식」40돌을 맞아 한국인문사회과학회가 2017년 5 월 27일 “인간의 한계”라는 주제로 연 학술 모임에서 발표한 것을 조금 고친 것이다. 먼저 내가 사회학의 세계를 밟아온 여정을 새기면서, 거기에 드리워진 인식론의 한계는 어떤 모습으로 나타나고 그것은 무엇 때문인지를 찾아 이를 밝히고자 한다. 지식의 생산과 공급 과정에서 저지르는 환원론과 지식 추구자가 빠져드는 유혹의 문제를구체스럽게 살펴본다. 이어, 나는 좀 더 깊이 라인홀드 니버가 ‘원죄’ 때문에 피할 수없다고 풀이할 자기 이익 추구에서 오는 인간 존재의 오류를 들여다보고자 한다. 여기서 지식 계급이 만들어내는 ‘지식과 권력’의 결탁 관계가 저지르는 통례의 위험을밝히고, 이를 완화시킬 수 있는 가능성을 굴대 문명이 전하는 가르침에 귀 기울이는데서 얻을 수 있다는 논의로 옮겨간다. 굴대 문명은 지식을 만들고 펼치는 지식 행위에서 그 자체의 한계를 넘어설 수 있는 ‘초월성’에 대한 감수성을 자극하여, 부분의한계 지식을 절대화하지 못하도록 제동을 거는 근거를 제공할 수 있기 때문이다. 지식 행위자 자신이 한계를 가지고 있는 만큼, 자기 한계를 인정하고 자기 바깥의 지식에 문을 열고 거기에서 배우고자 하는 지평 확장의 학문 태도를 지켜가야 한다.

This article is a slightly revised version of the paper presented at the symposium "On Human Limitations" on the 27th of May, 2017 in Seoul, which the Korean Association of Humanities and the Social Sciences in Korea organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Journal of Humanities and the Social Sciences (Hyonsang-gwa Insik). Reflecting on my own journey through the sociological world, I attempt to point out the epistemological limitations within it, by looking into how they are made and for what reasons. I specify reductionism committed in the processes of producing knowledge, and the temptation knowledge-seekers yield to. And I venture to take a deeper look into the ontological human fallacy coming from self-interest, which Reinhold Niebuhr might interpret to be inevitable due to 'original sin'. From here I move to discussing the possibility of mollifying the commonplace perils of the alliance of 'knowledge and power', which the knowledge class spawns, by taking the voice of axial civilizations, which could serve as a reference to which every and all knowledge activities (the production and supply of knowledge) should take into account to maintain 'transcendence' and not to absolutize partial knowledge. Under the circumstances, knowledge practitioners are to concede their limitations and continue to widen horizons by opening themselves to meet and learn from others.
