A considerable amount of research material discussing designs and properties of High Temperature Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (HTS FCL) is available. However, a shortage of research concerning positioning of HTS FCL in power grid is felt. In this paper a feasibility study of HTS FCL positioning in Smart Grid through simulation analysis is carried out. A complete power network (including generation, transmission and distribution) is modeled in Simulink / SimPowerSystems. A generalized HTS FCL is also designed by integrating Simulink and SimPowerSystem blocks. The distribution network of the model has a wind turbine attached to it forming a micro grid. Three phase fault have been simulated along with placing FCL models at key points of the distribution grid. It is observed that distribution grid, having distributed generation sources attached to it, must not have a single FCL located at the substation level. Optimized HTS FCL location regarding the best fault current contribution from wind turbine has been determined through simulation analysis.

Fuzzy PID Based Trajectory Tracking Control of Mobile Robot and its Simulation in Simulink SCOPUS

The precise control of mobile robot is an important issue in robotics field. In this paper, the motion model of mobile robot is established by mechanism analysis. Then, a fuzzy PID controller is designed for trajectory tracking of mobile robot. The controller consists of a PID controller and a fuzzy inference unit with two inputs and three outputs to tune the parameters of PID controller according to the error and error rate. Finally, the model of a four-wheel mobile robot, fuzzy PID and traditional PID controller are all simulated in Simulink. Simulation experiments are reached in different conditions. The result shows that the mobile robot with the fuzzy PID controller can track the desired trail by about 3 seconds in advance and the overshoot of the system will decrease by 40 percent, comparing to the mobile robot with the traditional PID controller. The advantages of fuzzy PID controller for trajectory tracking control of mobile robot are major in its rapidity, stability, anti-interference and tracking precision.

Aiming at the features of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) which can be charged through the network, the moving process of starting the engine was analyzed; the vehicle energy management strategy was formulated by combing of pure electric control strategy and economic model control strategy. Using genetic algorithm to optimize the upper and lower fluctuation limit values of state of charge (SOC) in charge sustain (CS) mode and engine optimal curve. The Simulation evaluation of PHEV energy consumption economy was conducted. The results indicate that control strategy keep the engine operation points within the peak efficiency region and reduce the energy consumption economy by 28.4%, 35.8%, 26.6 under New European Driving Cycle(NEDC), Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) and Highway Fuel Economy Test (HWFET) cycle conditions, compared with prototype vehicle.

Power quality simulation plays an important role in many practical cases, for example, when deciding the capacity of the related mitigation devices, assessing the influence of installing a nonlinear load in the distribution part, dissolving the quality issues between utilities and customers, and so on. For these purposes, many dedicated tools have been used in order to assess the level of quality distortions by various kinds of PQ indices. However, there are few modules that can accurately simulate the flicker phenomenon, that is, $P_{st}$ and the nonlinear and chaotic behavior of the electrical arc furnace, which is one of the representative nonlinear loads. This paper deals with the useful and simple modules for the voltage flicker simulation in the distribution and transmission level under the environment of Matlab/Simulink. With these modules, the various conditions of distribution systems and the capacities of arc furnaces with the chaotic characteristic can be easily taken into account.
