The launcher of a hard-kill type APS (Active Protection System) requires rapid and precise driving to target approaching threats after detection. High angular acceleration is required for rapid driving, which requires high energy consumption. However, the sufficient energy storage of the APS is limited due to weight and space constraints. If energy is insufficient during driving, the charged voltage of the capacitor bank may drop below the minimum operating voltage of the drive motor, which may result in problems such as torque insufficiency or saturation of the controller's integrator. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the maximum angular acceleration possible within the available energy and generate a corresponding driving profile. This paper proposes a method for calculating allowable energy and deriving allowable maximum angular acceleration for driving profile, and validates the proposed method through experiments. We established and implemented a method for deriving maximum angular acceleration through experimental methods to account for unknown frictional forces and mechanical errors in the launcher. By applying the proposed method, we confirmed that the system can operate at high speeds stably by reflecting appropriate angular acceleration even during continuous operation. Therefore, it is expected that the application of the proposed method will improve the operating stability of the APS launcher and enable continuous operation at maximum speed within limited energy.

The launcher of a hard-kill type APS (Active Protection System) requires rapid and precise driving to aim at incoming threats after detection. High angular acceleration is necessary for rapid driving, which demands high energy consumption. However, the capacity of the capacitor bank and power supply unit is limited due to weight and space constraints. If energy becomes insufficient during continuous operation, the voltage of the capacitor bank can drop below the minimum operating voltage of the drive motor, leading to problems such as torque deficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to determine an allowable angular acceleration that satisfies precision within the available energy and generate a driving profile accordingly. This paper proposes a method for deriving an allowable angular acceleration by analyzing the allowable energy and validates it through simulation. We examined the allowable energy by verifying the charged voltage of the capacitor bank, formulated equations for energy at the point of maximum consumption, and derived an equation for allowable angular acceleration through numerical analysis. By applying the proposed algorithm in simulations, we confirmed that the voltage of the capacitor bank did not drop below the minimum operating voltage of the driving motor during three consecutive operations. Therefore, it is expected that the stability of the APS launcher can be improved by applying the proposed algorithm, and continuous operation with limited performance is anticipated to be possible.

Servo control loops are a core part in the control architecture of machine tools. Servo control loops manage acceleration, velocity and position of all the axes in a machine tool based on commands. The performance of servo control loops sets the basis for quality of production paris and cycle time reduction. First, this paper presents a general control architecture of machine tools and several control schemes in literature, which can be applicable to machine tools control; including Zero Phase Error Tracking Control (ZPETC) and Cross Coupling Control (CCC). After that, modem control strategies to mitigate the problem of high speed machining are reviewed. In high speed machining, high accelerations excite the machine structure up to high frequencies, thereby exciting the structure's modes of vibration. These structural vibrations need to be damped if accurate positioning or trajectory following is required. Input shaping is an attractive option in dealing with structural vibrations. The advantages and drawbacks of using input shaping technique for machine tools are discussed in detail.

An experimental and theoretical analysis for the improvement of dynamic characteristics and design of electro-hydraulic flow control servo valve are performed. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental step responses, and the important design parameters of an electro-hydraulic flow control servo valve are derived by using the simulation program. Simulation parameters of nozzle jet coefficient and orifice and spool valve discharge coefficient are given through experiment. The theoretical and experimental step response curves show that the valve gain depends on the fixed orifice and nozzle $ratio(R_on)$ and is maximum at $R_on=1.$ And drain orifice in the flapper - nozzle return line creates a small back pressure, which improves the performance fur the valve.

The effect of nonlinear friction in the low velocity is dominant in precise controlled mechanisms and it is difficult to model. This paper is concerned with the compensation for friction using the variable structure system approach as nonmodel based method. The problem of chattering in the sliding mode controller is suppressed by the implementation of the boundary layer concept. And the estimation for friction using sliding mode observer makes the upper bound of matched uncertainty reduced. Accordingly, the effect of chattering can be more suppressed. And the sliding surface is constructed by adding an integral component to the switching function that is made by using error dynamics. This sliding surface guarantees the good tracking performance. Experimental results for a XY table system show that the proposed method has a good performance especially in the low velocity.

Many researches have been focused on optimal designs of a pole shape in order to reduce cogging torques, which are generated between permanent magnets and slots. In this paper, an adaptive controller is proposed fur reducing the effect of cogging torques in servo motors. The controller stabilizes the control system and shows an excellent trajectory tracking performance compared to the conventional PD controller.

This paper presents a stabilization control designed to improve position stabilization performance of a position servo-system(turret) mounted on a manuvering platform(vehicle). In the consideration of the motion of the platform, a dynamic model of the stabilization system is derived and shows the viscous and stick-slip friction torques are the major source of stabilization errors. An extended generalized minimum variance control which consists of a feedforward disturbance compensation as well as a pole placement feedback control is suggested to reduce the stabilization errors caused from the friction disturbances. This modeling and control are applied to a small experimental set-up and the experimental results confirm the accuracy of the model and the effectiveness of the suggested control.

A new algorithm based upon TDC (Time Delay Control) is proposed to improve the robustness of TDC performance in systems where the stick-slip friction is strong. Experiments were performed at the different levels of friction. The reponses of the TDC and the modified TDC were compared each other, and against those of a PID controller with an anti-windup. The results show that the TDC and the modified TDC equally perform better than the PID, and that the modified TDC performs consistently well even with variations in the friction level while the TDC does not.

This paper is concerned with the position control of electrohydraulic servo system under parameter variation. An adaptive sliding mode control which uses the direct parameter estimation scheme, is proposed to design a robust controller for fast and accurate control of the system. It is shown that the adaptive sliding mode control algorithm is robust and effective in attaining fast and accurate position control of system under time-dependent parameter variation. It is also shown experimentally that chattering phenomena in a sliding mode control can significantly be reduced by using boundary layer technique, and that new approach in sliding mode control introducing a term proportional to the distance between the current state and the sliding surface in the control law is effective to obtain fast response and to increase stability of the system. Computer simulation on the dynamic performance of the control system is also presented.

This paper describes a Neural Network based PD control scheme for motion control of pneumatic servo cylinder. Pneumatic systems have inherent nonlinearities such as compressibility of air and nonlinear frictions present in cylinder. The conventional linear controller is limited in some applications where the affection of nonlinear factor is dominant. A self-excited oscillation method is applied to derive the dynamic design parameters of linear model. Based on the parameters thus identified, a PD feedback compensator is designed first and then a neural network is incorporated. The experiments of a trajectory tracking control using the proposed control scheme are performed and a significant reduction in tracking error is achieved by comparing with those of a PD control.

The conventional sliding mode control(SMC) technique requires a prior knowledge of the upperbounds of external disturbance to guarantee a robust control performance. This, however, may not be easy to identity in practice. This paper presents a new methodology, sliding mode control with disturbance estimator(SMCDE), which offers a robust control performance without a prior knowledge of the upperbounds. The proposed technique is featured by an integrated average value of the imposed disturbance over a certain period. The proposed technique is applied to the position control of AC servo motor, and experimental results are compared between the conventional and proposed schemes.

In this paper, the position tracking control problem of the servo system with nonlinear dynamic friction is issued. The nonlinear dynamic friction contains a directly immeasurable friction state variable and the uncertainty caused by incomplete parameter modeling and its variations. In order to provide the efficient solution to these control problems, we propose the composite control scheme, which consists of the robust friction state observer, the FNN approximator and the approximation error estimator with sliding mode control. In first, the sliding mode controller and the robust friction state observer is designed to estimate the unknown internal state of the LuGre friction model. Next, the FNN estimator is adopted to approximate the unknown lumped friction uncertainty. Finally, the adaptive approximation error estimator is designed to compensate the approximation error of the FNN estimator. Some simulations and experiments on the servo system assembled with ball-screw and DC servo motor are presented. Results show the remarkable performance of the proposed control scheme. The robust friction state observer can successfully identify immeasurable friction state and the FNN estimator and adaptive approximation error estimator give the robustness to the proposed control scheme against the uncertainty of the friction parameters.

A pneumatic servo system requiring a fine gap control in a photo-electric sensor which is used for a LCD array detection device is introduced. The gap controlled by the pneumatic servo system remains within around 50~80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and the system possesses an effect to eliminate undesirable particles on the LCD plate by blowing air out. The air flow rate is initially controlled by a servo valve and expanded by a booster valve, thus the controlled air pressure contributes to maintaining an appropriate gap between the LCD plate and photo-electric sensor An air floating plate of two degrees of freedom is designed and fabricated, and a fine tilting motion control is also implemented by assigning different gap commands. The pressure control and direct gap control are proposed, and each performance is verified experimentally.

This paper presents a method of measuring the 6 DOF motion of a micro object using images taken of interference fringes projected onto the object. Information from the fringe patterns allows for extracting the 6 DOF motion of the object in one image, allowing for real time measurement of the object's pose. This measurement technique is applied to a visual servo control scheme where the object's 6 DOF motion is controled. Experimental results of the developed system are presented.

Recently, with rapid development of semiconductor and flat panel display, the manufacturing equipments are required to have large travel range, high productivity, and high accuracy. In this paper, an ultra precision decoupled dual servo (DDS) system is proposed to meet these requirements. And a control scheme for the DDS is studied. The proposed DDS consists of a $XY{\Theta}$ fine stage for handling work-pieces precisely and a XY coarse stage for large travel range. The fine stage consists of four voice coil motors (VCM) and air bearing guides. The coarse stage consists of linear motors and air bearing guides. The DDS is mechanically decoupled between coarse stage and fine stage. Therefore, both stages must be controlled independently and the performance of the DDS is mainly determined by the fine stage. For high performance tracking, the controller of fine stage consists of time delay control (TDC) and perturbation observer while the controller of coarse stage is TDC alone. With these individual controllers, two kinds of dual-servo control strategies are suggested: master-slave type and parallel type. By simulations and experiments, the performances of two dual-servo control strategies are compared.

In this paper an electro-hydraulic servo system is designed by using a fuzzy control algorithm. In order to drive an optimal fuzzy control system, a simulation program for the control system has been developed. By this program the fuzzifier and defuzzifier, a fuzzy inference method, a fuzzy relational matrix, and a fuzzy inference method are investigated. As a result, Larsen inference method, 9*9 fuzzy relational matrix, and center of area defuzzifier are turned out the best as parameters. Finally this method is compared with the conventional PID algotithm, and showed that the fuzzy control performs better than PID algorithm. The fuzzy control performs very well adap- tation against uncertain disturbances.
