The Korean church faces a critical challenge marked by the aging of its missionary force and a significant decline in missionary candidates from younger generations. As of 2024, missionaries aged fifty and above account for 67.91% of all long-term Korean missionaries, while those aged thirty and below represent only 6.92%—an exact reversal of the 1994 demographic profile, in which missionaries under thirty constituted 70.2% of the total. Although discussions on next-generation missionary mobilization have intensified in recent years, in-depth qualitative research examining the concrete situations experienced by MZ generation missionaries in the field has been largely absent. To address this gap, the present study conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with four MZ generation missionaries who have served for three or more years in Thailand and Cambodia, and employed cross-case comparative analysis to explore their missionary situations across four thematic domains: missionary calling, missionary life, missionary ministry, and missionary mobilization. The study adopted three theological perspectives as its analytical framework—missio Dei theology, incarnational missiology, and the principle of local church initiative—to interpret the missiological significance of MZ generation missionaries' field experiences. The findings indicate that MZ generation missionaries formed their missionary calling through diverse pathways, including short-term mission trips, mission camps, and spousal influence. They actively utilized digital technology to gather information about their mission fields, maintained a flexible perception of their ministry locations as changeable rather than fixed, and prioritized family care as a core value. Notable intergenerational differences were identified between MZ generation missionaries and their senior counterparts regarding ministry approaches and leadership styles, with the younger generation gravitating toward participation in locally-led church ministries and horizontal, collegial relationships. They placed greater emphasis on cultivating authentic personal relationships with local people and practicing ethical integrity in daily life than on achieving measurable ministry outcomes. In terms of financial support, they favored organic, relationship-based approaches to fundraising over direct solicitation. Based on these findings, the study proposes several practical recommendations: developing a systematic roadmap for next-generation missionary mobilization at the organizational level, formulating digital mission strategies, establishing family-friendly mission policies, creating educational programs to foster intergenerational understanding, building mentoring and relationship-centered care structures within mission organizations, and ensuring fairness and transparency in mission organizational governance. While the study is limited in generalizability due to the small sample of four male missionaries, it offers a scholarly contribution by qualitatively exploring the lived field experiences of active MZ generation missionaries—an area that prior literature-based and survey-oriented studies have not adequately addressed.

This study was conducted to examine the generational differences and similarities in regard to value orientations and the perception of adolescents' daily behaviors. A total of 1,067 participants (464 adolescents, 465 adults, and 138 older adults) took part in this study. The results exhibited both similarities and differences across the generations. First, although young people valued marriage and family not as highly as older people did, young as well as older people put greater significance on domestic peace relative to others. Second, parents and grandparents were more likely to rate adolescents' behaviors such as chatting on the internet all night as problematic than adolescents would. However, all the generations unanimously considered adolescents' adult-ignoring behaviors to be the most problematic. The implications of these results were discussed.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between filial piety, family exchange, and social exchange and perception of intergenerational solidarity and to find the differences of those relationships among different age groups. '2017 Age Integration Survey’ data, which were collected under the support of Social Science Korea (SSK) project of National Research Foundation of Korea. 300 participants for each three age group such as the young, middle-aged and older adult were randomly selected among 1,017 and data were analyzed by structural equation modeling method. Findings were as follows. Firstly, filial piety, family exchange, social exchange affected the perception of intergenerational solidarity. Secondly, there is a significant difference in those relationships among different age groups. Family exchange and social exchange were statistically significant variables to explain the perception of intergenerational solidarity in the young age group; filial piety, family exchange, and social exchange, all three variables were related statistically significantly to the perception of intergenerational solidarity in the middle-aged group. For older adult group, filial piety and social exchange appeared as the significant variables. Based on these findings, several suggestions in policies and practices were made to increase the perception of intergenerational solidarity by reflecting the characteristics of each age groups.
