For the last few decades the method of computational phylogenetic analysis has been successfully adopted in numerous cases of text-critical works. It has opened a new possibility of textual criticism based on the possibility of dealing with a number on taxa with long lists of characters. But it seems that the method introduced to the field not only new technical possibilities but also a new perspective of textual stemmatics. To make this point clear an attempt is made in the present article to differentiate clearly the phylogenetic analysis (in Hennigian sense) from the computational cladistics. The major point is that the former method accepts the presupposed evolutionary process not only in the formal sense but also in the historical one. Overall, the different methodological possibilities offered by the computational phologenetic analysis and cladistics have, in my view, their own advantages depending on the general situation of the textual transmission of the target texts. Furthermore, indifferentiated application of the traditional philological method would not be valid, if it is adopted without any reference to a concrete history of text transmission(s). I have additionally attempted to make some suggestions for the future text-critical works with regard to the orally transmitted literature of Korea.

Identification of latent fingerprint in crime scene is one of the most important thing for crime scene investigators. Lots of fingerprint identification methods have been developed to be applied to various kinds of evidence. Nowadays, forensic DNA typing technology showed incredible sensitivity of successful result even from fingerprint. In this study, six kinds of fingerprint identification methods including Ninhydrin, Ninhydrin with heat, DFO, iodine, RTX and CA were examined regarding to their effect to DNA profiling by quantitative analysis of purified DNA using quantitative PCR. The fingerprint chemicals were treated onto the diluted bloodstain on paper following purification of DNA after 1, 3, 5 and 7 days. RTX treatment resulted approximately 70 % decrease in DNA concentration showing the most destructive or inhibitory chemicals. Ninhydrin with heat treatment and ninhydrin only treatment showed approximately 50 % and 30 % decrease, respectively. DFO, Iodine and CA showed relatively little effect on DNA concentration of 10 % to 20 % decrease. The effect of fingerprint chemicals on forensic DNA typing was also demonstrated by STR analysis. Latent fingerprint identification and DNA typing are equally important forensic tools. It is necessary to establish a guideline for selection and sequence of latent fingerprint identification method for successful DNA typing from fingerprint.

We report a case on the comprehensive application of forensic science and criminal profiling for capturing a serial rapist. Since June 2001 a rapist from Chungnam Province (the west coast area) committed at least 8 rapes. The frequency of the CODIS core STR profile identified was estimated to be 4.44 x 10-18. Crime scene aspects of a serial rapist show similar components in the viewpoint of geographical and behavioural characteristics. 17 Y-STR haplotype of the biological materials left at eight serial crime scenes was carried a star-like cluster from a specific surname in Korea population data [Forensic Sci. Int.: Genetics 5(2011), e122- 123]. In societies, patrilineal surnames and Y-STR haplotypes are expected to be correlated. This characteristic could help defining an initial pool of suspects in forensic routine by the analysis of biological material left at the crime scene and evaluating the haplotype correlated. It was expected as a suspect with common surname living the west coast area of Chungcheong district by the application of efficient methods. We suggest the comprehensive application including forensic DNA analysis and criminal profiling could lead to trace felonious criminals in forensic investigations on a much wider scale than has been used to date.
