본 논문은 한국저작권위원회의 저작권 R&D 과제(과제명 : 북스캔 어문/만화 저작물 식별 및 복제방지 기술 개발)에서 연구 중인 북스캔 도서 저작물 식별 기술연구로 북스캔 만화 저작물과 함께 북스캔 도서를 효과적으로 식별할 수 있는 기술 개발을 통하여 북스캔 만화 및 도서 저작물의 건전한 생태계 기반 조성을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문은 기 연구된 북스캔 만화 저작물 식별 시스템에 추가적으로 도서 저작물 식별 시스템을 통합 구현한 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 최근 들어 고화질 스캐너와 보정 소프트웨어들을 이용한 도서의 불법 복제가 확산되고 있어 만화와 함께 도서에 대한 식별 기술을 제공하여 무차별적 복제로 인한 저작권자들의 피해를 줄이는데 본 연구가 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

This study aims to develop sound ecosystem of scanned cartoons and books through the effective identification technology developed as a part of the project granted from the Korea Copyright Commission (Project title: Identification and Copy Protection Technology of Scanned Text/Comic Books). This study shows a model integrating the scanned book identification system with the existing system that identifies scanned cartoons. The model suggested in this study is expected to give a help in reducing the author’s damages due to the indiscriminate illegal reproduction, which tends to expand with high quality scanners and editing softwares.

만화저작물은 웹하드 서비스의 급증과 스마트기기의 보급으로 인하여 불법 복제가 만연하고 있으나 음악, 동영상과 같이 저작물을 식별할 수 있는 핑거프린팅 기술 개발이 이루어지지 않아 무차별 복제에 따른 저작권자들의 피해 규모가 크게 발생하고 있다. 한국저작권위원회의 저작권 R&D 과제로 진행되고 있는 북스캔 만화 저작물 식별 기술 연구(과제명 : 북스캔 어문/만화 저작물 식별 및 복제방지 기술 개발)는 불법으로 유통되는 북스캔 만화를 효과 적으로 식별할 수 있는 기술 개발을 통하여 만화 저작권자들의 수익 기반 확대와 만화저작물의 건전한 생태계 조성 기반을 목적으로 진행되고 있다. 본 논문은 동영상 특징점 추출 알고리즘으로 기 연구된 계층적-대칭-차이-특징점 방 식의 알고리즘을 기반으로 한 북스캔 만화 저작물 식별 시스템에 대한 구현 모델을 제시하고자 한다.

Although illegal reproduction of cartoon books are prevalent with rapid growth of webhard services and smartphone use, fingerprinting technology for product identification, as seen in music and videos, has not been developed yet. This leads to indiscriminate illegal reproduction of cartoon books, causing great amount of copyright damages from copyright infringement of the rightful owners. The copyright R&D project granted from the Korea Copyright Permission (Project Title: Identification and Copy Protection Technology of Bookscaned Text/Comic Books) has been carried out in order to develop technology to effectively identify illegal reproduction and distribution of scanned cartoon books. The developed technology will contribute to increase of royalty payments and robust ecosystem of cartoon book markets. The study is to propose an enhanced implementation model for identification of scanned cartoon books on the basis of hierarchical symmetric difference feature algorithms adopted from existing feature extraction algorithms for video.

다양한 스마트 기기의 보급으로 인해 종이책이 아닌 전자책(e-book)으로 책을 읽는 사용자가 증가하고 있다. 하지만 전자책으로 출판되는 책의 다양성이 부족하여 사용자가 직접 원하는 책을 스캔하여 전자책으로 만드는 북스캔(Bookscan)이 생겨났다. 현재 북스캔 서비스는 PDF(Portable Document Format), JPG파일 형태로 제공되고 있으며 파일 관리에 대한 문제점으로 인해 PDF 파일 형식이 보편적으로 사용되고 있다. 북 스캐닝은 고가의 장비와 시간 탓에 북스캔 대행업체가 시장을 형성해가고 있다. 하지만 이는 엄연히 저작권법에 위배되는 불법 행위이다. 또한 북스캔 대행업체는 저작물에 대한 보호조치가 없어 북스캔본이 웹을 통해 불법 공유되고 있다. 북스캔 서비스의 저작권 문제로 출판 산업 시장도 과거 소리바다 음원 시장 붕괴와 같은 절차를 밟을 것으로 보인다. 따라서 북스캔에 대해 법제도 정비를 위한 기술적인 뒷받침이 필요하다. 기존 불법 저작물 추적관리 시스템은 음원, 영화에 대해 적용이 되고 출판물에 대해서는 조치가 없었다. 이에 대해 본 논문에서는 실현 가능한 기술을 기반으로 PDF 형식의 북스캔 파일에 대한 관리 프레임 워크를 제시하고자 한다.

Since various smart devices are being developed, a growing number of people are reading eBooks instead of paper books. However, people started making eBooks on their own by scanning paper books because there are not enough eBooks provided from market. The term "Bookscan" was made with this reason. The number of bookscan company is increasing because the equipment is too expensive. However, the commercial activity of bookscan company is against copyright law. Also bookscan files are in danger of being illegally distributed on web, because bookscan companies are not protecting copyright. Publication market follows the same procedure with sound market which was collapsed due to copyright problem. Therefore, the technical methods should be prepared for law system against bookscan. The previous ICOP(Illegal Copyrights Obstruction Program) system has been applied to sound and movie files, but not applied to publication. This paper suggests the framework for bookscan file management based on practical mechanism.
