This paper deals with Gyeongseong Broadcasting Station and its traditional music broadcasting. The study focuses on the use of data which is the list of music broadcast via this station and its program details. By exploring previous journals and articles, I look at how scholars in Korean musicology approach to the phase of musical development or situation during 1930s (Japanese colonial period) using this data. Also, my research aims to see if there can be a better way to make good use of this data- more accurately or more logically. The scholars have shown similar methodology and research pattern in terms of counting— how many times a specific piece of music or a musician was on air. This methodology brings out assumptions with little logical ground in conclusion. However, the use of data about musicians was fruitful and multifaceted. Researchers should always bear in mind that this data provides useful information while at the same time contains uncertainty due to the poor broadcasting condition at that time. Therefore, the data should be more carefully analyzed referring other relevant materials, and more data collection required regarding the broadcasting, such as interviews of former listeners or workers who were engaged in that field.
