스트레스라는 외부적 환경에 의한 내부적 반응요소는 일반 신체 및 피부에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로알려져 있다. 비록 임상적으로 스트레스의 생리 효과의 증명 부분이 어려운 실정에서 마우스 모델을 이용한 연구가 최근 진행되고 있다. 마우스에 가한 초음파 스트레스에 의해서 성장기 모낭이 퇴행기로 조기 이행되는 것을 저해하는 효과적인 약물을 찾는 과정에서 오랫동안 진정과 항염작용을 가지고, 최근 NK-1 수용체의 길항제 기능을가지는 것으로 알려진 카모마일 추출물의 효과를 살펴 보았다. 7주령의 C57bl/6(female) 마우스를 제모하여 새로운성장기(anagen)로 유도한 후, 초음파를 처리한 스트레스환경에서 5%의 카모마일 추출물을 도포하여 퇴행기로의모낭 주기 이행을 확인할 수 있도록 피부색깔(L value), 모낭주기관찰(Quantitative histomorphology) 및 세포사(apoptic cell: TUNEL stain)현상과 면역적 상태를 관찰하였다. 동일한 스트레스 환경의 대조군에 비해서 5% 카모마일 추출물을 도포한 군에서 유의적으로 성장기 피부색깔(L value)이 유지되고(P<0.0003), 성장기 주기를 가지는모낭의 개수도 증가하였으며(P<0.0004), 모구내 모유두 세포와 외모근초 세포에서의 낮은 세포사(TUNEL positive)현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. 따라서, 본 연구에서 확인한 카모마일 추출물은 두피에 적용되었을 때 스트레스에 대한신체 방어 작용에 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mineral powder(MP) on antitumor andantimetastatic activity. MP did not exhibit the any cytotoxic activity against U937, A549 and MDA-MB-231 cancercells in vitro. However, in vivo, MP exhibited a significant antitumor activity in BDF1 mice bearing Lewis lungcarcinoma cells(LLC) with inhibition rates of 46 and 23% at 200 and 100 mg/kg/day, respectively. Furthermore, inpulmonary colonization assay, MP exhibited the inhibitory effect of tumor colonization. From these results, it wasconcluded that MP had antitumor and antimetastatic activity suggesting its application for the prevention andtreatment of cancer.

Room temperature magnetic refrigeration is a new highly efficient and environmentally protectivetechnology. Although it has not been maturely developed, it shows great applicable prosperity and seems to be asubstitute for the traditional vapor compression technology. In this paper, we introduced magnetocaloric effect(MCE)and several magnetic materials of room temperature magnetic refrigeration.

Embryonic stem (ES) cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastocyst-stage embryos are totipotent.Recent studies indicated the potential use of ES cells on transplantation in the central nervous system with different typeof injuries. The present study was conducted to investigate functional recovery following transplantation of human EScells with single or colony form after SCI. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital andsubjected to SCI model. Rats were laminectomized and SCI was induced using NYU spinal impactor at T9 spinal seg-ment. Human ES (HES) cells with single or colony form were transplanted 1 week after SCI. A behavioral test usingBBB locomotor rating scaling was performed. HES cells transplanted into rats promoted the hindlimb performance, anHES cell transplant significantly improves locomotion recovery. Especially, 2×104 HES cells with single form greatlyimproved hindlimb performance but colony-form did not. Histologically, 2×104 HES cells tended to fill the cavity butsingle form showed more reduced cavity size compared to colony. These results suggest that HES cells with single formare more effective in function recovery after transplantation in spinal cord injured rats compared to colony form.

침술은 약 2500년 전부터 인체의 질병을 치료하기 위해 사용되어온 것으로 오늘날에도 널리 이용되고 있으나, 그 효과를 과학적으로 증명하는 데에는 어려운 점이 있어 아직 침술의 효능에 대해서는 논쟁의 여지가 많다.현대의 의학이 발전하고 있지만 통증의 치료방법에 있어서 아직도 서구 의학만으로는 풀기 어려운 문제점 들이 존재하고 있고 대안적 치료법으로 여러 가지가 모색되고 있는데, 그 중 가장 일반적인 방법으로 사용되고 있는 것이침술이다. 침에 의한 자극은 중추신경계로 전달되어 근육이나 척수, 뇌에서 화학물질을 분비시키는 것으로 알려져있으며, 이는 세 가지 요인으로 구분하여 생각할 수 있는데, 체내에서 이루어지는 전기신호의 변화와, opioid계peptide의 증가, 뇌의 활성화 상태의 증가 등을 들 수 있다. 침술에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 침술이 인체에 작용하는 기전을 밝히려는 연구들이 진행되고 있데, 이와 더불어 통증 완화에 관여하는 침술의 기전을 밝히기 위해 많은노력이 경주되어 많은 사실이 밝혀져 있으나, 아직 불분명한 측면이 많다. 본고에서는 통증 억제에 대한 침술의 유용성 및 관련된 기전을 개관해 보고자 한다.

We investigated the effects of acupuncture on proximal colonic motility in conscious dogs. Two of stainlesssteel electrodes were implanted at the proximal colon in 5 healthy mongrel dogs. Manual acupuncture was applied withoutadditional stimulation at the following acupoints, LI01, LI02, LI03, LI04, LI05, LI06, LI07 or LI11. All dogs exhibitedspontaneous colonic activity. Manual acupuncture at LI06 depressed colonic motility by decreasing the total duration andthe frequency and increasing the cycle length of contractile states. While LI07 inhibited only the total duration, LI03 acu-point significantly depressed the cycle length without affecting other factors of contractile states. These findings dem-onstrated that acupuncture could have specific effects on colonic motility in different ways depending on acupoints.acupuncture at LI06 or LI07 decreasing colonic motility may be used for the treatment of diseases caused by an increasedcolonic motility, and acupuncture at LI03 reducing the cycle length of colonic motility may be useful for constipation. Acu-points of large intestine meridian have point-specific effects on proximal colonic motility in conscious dogs.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in the effects of Qi therapy without touching or withtouching on anxiety, mood, neurohormones, and cellular immune function. Twenty-four healthy male subjects were ran-domly assigned to either Qi therapy (external Qigong) without touching (QTN) or with touching (QTT). A 2×3 repeatedmeasures ANOVA revealed no significant differences between the effects of QTN and QTT (all P > 0.05). There wereno significant group-by-time interactions for any of the variables. There was a significant time effect on anxiety, alert-ness, anger, depression, fatigue, tension, cortisol levels, neutrophil function, and natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity.Separate repeated measures ANOVAs for each intervention revealed significant effects on anxiety, alertness, depression,fatigue, tension, cortisol levels, and NK cell cytotoxicity for both QTN and QTT, and on neutrophil function for QTNonly. These findings suggest that there are few differences between the effects of QTN and QTT.
