The aim of this work is to reduce the burden task on the DSP processor by transferring a parallel computation part on a configurable circuits FPGA, in automatic speech recognition module design, signal pre-processing, feature selection and optimization, models construction and finally classification phase are necessary. LMS filter algorithm that contains more parallelism and more MACs (multiply and Accumulate) operations is implemented on FPGA Virtex 5 by Xilings , MFCCs features extraction and DTW( dynamic time wrapping ) method is used as a classifier. Major contribution of this work are hybrid solution DSP and FPGA in real time speech recognition system design, the optimization of number of MAC-core within the FPGA this result is obtained by sharing MAC resources between two operation phases: computation of output filter and updating LMS filter coefficients. The paper also provides a hardware solution of the filter with detailed description of asynchronous interface of FPGA circuit and TMS320C6713-EMIF component. The results of simulation shows an improvement in time computation and by optimizing the implementation on the FPGA a gain in space consumption is obtained.

This paper investigates noise reduction performance and performs convergence analysis of a Variable Error Data Normalized Step-Size Least Mean Square(VEDNSS LMS) algorithm. Adopting VEDNSS LMS results in higher system complexity, but noise is reduced providing fast convergence speed Mathematical analysis demonstrates that tap coefficient misadjustment converges. This is confirmed by computer simulation with the proposed algorithm.

In order to deal with the filtering delay problem of least mean square adaptive filter noise reduction algorithm and music noise problem of spectral subtraction algorithm during the speech signal processing, we combine these two algorithms and propose one novel noise reduction method, showing a strong performance on par or even better than state of the art methods. We first use the least mean square algorithm to reduce the average intensity of noise, and then add spectral subtraction algorithm to reduce remaining noise again. Experiments prove that using the spectral subtraction again after the least mean square adaptive filter algorithm overcomes shortcomings which come from the former two algorithms. Also the novel method increases the signal-to-noise ratio of original speech data and improves the final noise reduction performance.

This study proposes an algorithm for removal of CPR artifact in order that automated external defibrillator (AED) can effectively diagnose ECG rhythm during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Current AED required to interrupt chest compression for reliable rhythm analysis to avoid the effect of artifacts produced by CPR. However even temporarily interruption of chest compression during CPR adversely affects the probability of restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and survival after the delivery of the shock. Therefore, we proposed a method for removal of CPR artifacts using least mean square (LMS) filter. The removal of the CPR artifacts would enable compressions to continue during AED rhythm analysis, thereby increasing the likelihood of resuscitation success. It was tested on 31 segments of shockable and 300 segments of non-shockable ECG signals recorded from three pigs during CPR. In the result, sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) analysis on the test segments showed values of Se = 3.2%, Sp = 66.0% and Se = 96.8%, Sp = 98.7% in the case of unfiltered and filtered signals during CPR. In conclusion, it was shown that the proposed method can be a useful tool to exactly diagnose the ECG rhythm during the CPR.

This paper proposes a novel transversal filter and an optimal LMS algorithm, and show how these can be realized as an adaptive equalizer. The transversal filter consists of a walsh and block pulse functions. in the LMS algorithm with equalizers, the convergence factor is an improtant design parameter because it governs stability and convergence speed. The conventional adaptation techniques use a fixed time constant convergence factor by the trial and error method. In this paper, an optimal method in the choice of the convergence factor is proposed. The proposed algorithm is obtrained that is tailored for each filter tap and is updated at each iteration. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared iwth those of the conventional TDL and DFT equalizers by computer simulations.
