Establishing a renewal plan and practical use of Jungam temple, which exists natural monuments, including national treasures and Gangwondo cultural materials, at Jungseon is as important as anything else. To discuss the renewal plan and the practical use of Jungam temple, this thesis is composed with the next series of processes. First, this thesis presents examining a relationship between Jajang, who was a buddhist monk and caused a departure point of foundation of the temple, and Jungam temple is necessary; thus, the relationship of his architectural consciousness and Jungam temple was showed in this thesis. Second, this thesis demonstrates present conditions for extant facilities and features of the space structure for Jungam temple to look into architectural characteristics of Jungam temple. Third, this thesis shows preservation of Jungam temple because this temple is the historic cultural resource; in addition, this thesis explains restoring of lost elements for points, repairing shipments regarding the whole area of preservation targets, expansion of the area nearby historic cultural resources to make plans for maintaining Jungam temple. Finally, this thesis concludes the final result of Jungam temple to work towards becoming the contemporarily historic cultural resource by designating Jungam temple as the historic site and suggesting energization by public participation and experience programs to continuously manage Jungam temple.

정암사에 관한 연구는 최근 활발하게 진행되었다. 정암사와 정선군의 노력으로 2012년부터 2021년까지 다섯 차례 이상의 학술대회가 개최되었 고, 그 성과물이 단행본으로 출간되었다. 이들 연구는 대체로 두 가지 유 형으로 구분된다. 첫 번째는 자장의 창건 사실이고 두 번째는 수마노탑에 관한 연구이다. 즉 자장과 수마노탑은 정암사의 모든 것을 상징한다고 해 도 과언이 아닐 만큼 중요하다. 절의 역사를 전하는 대부분의 기록이 이 두 가지에 집중되어 있기 때문이기도 하다. 이 글은 정암사에 관한 다양한 기록 가운데 절에 전하는 사적기를 살펴 보는데 목적이 있다. 절의 사적기는 ‘사적’, ‘중수기’, ‘중수지’ 등 여러 이 름으로 전한다. 사실 절의 역사를 고찰한 대부분의 연구에서 이들 사적기 가 널리 원용(援用)되었다. 그런데 기록의 원문을 정확히 교감(校勘)하지 않고 연구자 마다 다르게 판독하거나, 착오된 기록이 전승되기도 하였다. 특히 수마노탑의 탑지에는 판독하기 어려운 글자들이 여럿 있다. 발견 당 시 옮겨 적으면서 누락과 오독(誤讀)이 발생하였고, 그 결과가 그대로 활 자화되었다. 이와 같은 절의 사적, 중수기, 중수지 등을 한데 모아 사적기라는 이름 으로 살펴보았다. 석비(石碑)로 조성한 5건의 탑지석은 현재 탑 안에 봉안 되어 실물을 보지 못한다. 1972년 발견 당시 촬영한 사진으로만 확인할 뿐이다. 이 당시 탑지석의 내용을 판독하는 과정에서 착오가 발생하여 1713년의 중수 사실을 1653년으로 오인하기도 하였다. 최근 선학들의 연 구로 1713년으로 확인되었고, 필자는 이를 뒷받침하는 ｢수마노탑중수사적｣ 중의 여특의 증언을 새롭게 추가하였다.

The study on the Jungam-sa Temple has been actively conducted recently. More than five academic conferences were held from 2012 to 2021 with the efforts of Jungam-sa and Jeongseon-gun, and the result was published in a book. These studies are largely divided into two types. The first is the fact that Jajang’s the temple was built, the second is a study of the Sumanotap. In other words, Jajang and the Sumanotap are important enough to symbolize everything of Jeongam-sa. It is also because most of the records that convey the history of the temple are concentrated in these two things. The purpose of this study is to examine the historical records of Jeongam-sa. The historical records of the temple are conveyed by various names such as ‘Sajeok(事蹟)’, ‘Jungsooki(重修記)’, ‘Jungsooji(重修誌)’. In fact, most studies that examined the history of the temple have widely used these historical records. However, the original text of the record was not read correctly but read differently for each researcher, misunderstanding records were also handed down. In particular, there are several letters that are difficult to read in the records ofSumanotap. At the time of discovery, omission and misreading occurred while writing down, and the result was typed as it was. Five stones pagoda records are currently enshrined in the tower and do not see the real thing. It is only confirmed by photographs taken at the time of discovery in 1972. At that time, a mistake occurred in the process of reading the contents of the pagoda records, and the fact of repair in 1713 was mistaken for 1653. Recent studies have confirmed it as 1713, I added a new testimony of the Sumanotop's historical records supporting this.
