코로나로 인하여 가속화되고 있는 디지털 전환(digital turn)은 종교 지형의 새로운 변화를 일으키고 있다. 예배 장소와 형식의 문제를 넘어서, 디지털 미디어를 통한 종 교성(종교적 형성)과 신앙 유형의 변화는 새로운 교회의 탄생을 예고하고 있다. 본 연 구는 종교의 디지털 전환을 살피면서 그 특징들이 무엇인지를 설명할 것이다. 기존의 연구들이 온라인 예배와 온라인 교회에 집중하고 있다면, 조금 더 넓은 차원에서 디 지털 종교(Digital Religion) 현상에 주목할 것이다. 하이디 캠벨(Heidi A. Campbell)은 미디어를 통한 종교의 변화들을 살피면서 2000년대 들어서 각각의 종교들이 미디어를 어떻게 이용하고 있으며, 미디어 기술을 통한 신앙의 왜곡과 변화를 어떻게 이해해야 하는지 잘 설명한다. 영미권에서는 이미 다양한 형태의 온라인 교회가 시도되어왔다. 팀 허칭스(T. Hutchings)가 설명하는 Church of Fools, St. Fixels, I-Church, Lifechurch.tv 등은 다양한 형태의 온라인 교회를 잘 보여주는 사례이다. 포스트-코로나 시대에 온라인과 오프라인 즉, ‘혼종적 교회’(Hybrid Church)가 지 속될 것이다. 하이브리드 처치는 한 교회 안에 온라인-오프라인 교회(Online-Offline Church)가 공존하는 것을 뜻하며, 성도들은 하나의 종교 공동체에 소속되어 신앙생활 을 하는 것이 아니라 여러 형태의 참여와 소통을 통한 다중적 소속감(multi-belonging) 을 지니며 종교 권위의 수용도 이전과는 다른 방식으로 형성된다. 디지털 미디어의 활용으로 등장한 ‘온라인 성도’(Online Christian)은 소속감, 권위수용, 신앙형태 등에 서 다른 구별성을 드러낸다. 온라인 성도들은 느슨하지만 일관된 관계성을 유지하며, 자유로운 활동을 보장하는 익명성에 친숙하고, 기존의 방식이 아닌 새로운 신앙생활 의 창조성을 갖는다. 소속감(친밀감)과 종교 권위 인식의 변화 등을 특징으로 하는 온 라인 성도들의 ‘디지털 신앙’(digital faith)은 ‘디지털 네이티브’(digital natives)를 중심 으로 더욱 연구해야 할 주제이다. 본 연구에서는 디지털 전환이 가져오는 종교 환경의 변화가 앞으로의 교회 형태와 신앙의 유형이 어떻게 달라질 수 있는지를 신학적으로 고찰하면서 포스트-코로나 시대를 준비하고자 한다.

Digital turn, which is accelerating due to COVID-19, is causing new changes in religious behavior and form. Beyond the issue of places and forms of worship, the formation of religion and changes in the type of faith through digital media are leading to the emergence of new churches. This study evaluates the characteristics of the digital transformation of religion. If online church studies are now focusing on online worship and church formats, this study focuses on the phenomenon of digital religion on a broader level. Heidi A. Campbell examines the changes in religion through digital media, explaining how each religion uses the media and how to understand the distortions and changes in faith through media technology. Various types of online churches have already been attempted in the British and American regions. Tim Hutchings describes various online churches such as Church of Fools, St. Fixels, I-Church, and Lifechurch. In the post-COVID-19 era, online and offline churches have no choice but to coexist. The Church will continue to be a hybrid church, both online and offline. Christians do not belong to one religious community and will have a multi-belonging sense of participation in several communities. Online Christian, which utilizes digital media, reveals different distinctions in sense of belonging, acceptance of authority, and form of faith. Online Christians maintain loose but consistent relationships, are familiar with anonymity that guarantees free activity, and have the creativity of a new faith life, not the old way. Through this, this study aims to prepare for the post-corona era by theologically examining how changes in the religious environment brought by digital transformation can change the church form and the type of faith in the future.

본 연구의 목적은 오늘날 제4차산업혁명을 통해 빠르게 변화하고 있는 한국 사 회에 있어서 신앙 형성과 디지털 리터러시 사이의 관계에 대하여 연구하고, 이를 통하여 발견 되어지는 디지털 리터러시의 기독교교육적 함의점을 찾아내기 위한 것이다. 지난 10년 동안 한국 사회는 새로운 삶의 방식인 제4차 산업혁명을 통해 그 어느 때보다도 빠르고 급진적인 변화의 시대를 살아왔다. 한국교회는 그 어느 때보다도 긴급하고 본질적인 사명인 변치 않는 진리를 변하는 세상속에 온전하고 합당하게 전해야 하는 현실앞에 마주하게 되었다. 이러한 점을 염두에 두고, 본 연구는 첫째, 제4차산업혁명에 필수적으로 요청 되는 디지털 리터러시의 의미와 역사와 요청 되어지는 역량에 대하여 정리하고, 둘째, 기독교교육의 핵심개념인 신앙형성과 디지털 리터러시의 시대요청적인 관계 를 확인하여 신앙형성의 구체적인 교육현장에 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 비판적으 로 확인하며, 셋째, 디지털 리터러시를 기독교교육의 현장에 활용할 때 발견되어 지는 기독교교육적 함의점들을 교육내용, 교육현장, 교사 및 학생의 역할, 그리고 평가적 재개념화를 통해서 찾고자 한다. 바라기는, 이 연구를 통하여 앞으로 기독 교교육이 디지털 미디어를 활용한 보다 시대반영적이며, 사명실천적인 신앙형성의 사건을 지속적으로 세워가기를 기대한다.

The purpose of this study is to find the implications of Christian education on the relationship between the formation of faith and digital literacy in the Korean society, which is rapidly changing within the fourth Industrial Revolution today through critical conversations on educational contexts. Over the past decade, Korean society has lived in an era of rapid and radical change more than any other time through a new way of life called the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Korean church is also facing the reality that it must fulfill its urgent mission to deliver the unchanging truth in an ever-changing era. With this in mind, this study (1) identifies digital literacy as an essential competency requested in the era of the fourth industrial revolution by examining the relationship with congregation’s life as well as its definition and contents, (2) discovers educational rationale for the relationship between faith formation and digital literacy by applying educational context of Christian education with attention to the educational efficiency of digital literacy, and (3) finds educational implications of digital literacy by re-conceptualizing the contents, context, role of teachers and students, and evaluation in the context of Christian education. I hope that this study will help Christian education serve for the spread of the Gospel of Christ and the realization of the kingdom of God on this earth through digital media in the future more time-responsively and mission-practically.

기독교 신앙은 신앙 고백의 확증과 더불어 삶의 방식을 구축한다. 삶과 의례의 방식으로 표현하는 예배도 하나님을 향한 경배와 더불어 삶의 방식을 구축하는 기독교 신앙의 핵심 실천이다. 이 글은 디지털 기술 사회에서 주어진 신앙 형성의 새로운 생태를 분석하고, 바람직한 신앙 형성을 이끌기 위한 신학교육의 과제를 예전적으로 고찰한다. 디지털 기술 사회에서 신앙형성을 이끌기 위한 신학교육은 단지 복음의 내용과 정보를 미디어 장치를 통해 효율적으로 전달하는 것을 넘어선 전략과 의도적인 실천을 요구한다. 예배는 신앙과 삶의 형성을 위한 신학교육의 과제에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 예배가 지닌 신앙 형성은 (1) 예배 실천 자체의 문화적 기능을 더욱 강화해서 수용하고, (2) 성찬의 직접적인 참여를 통해 연결성에 의한 제한된 공동체 경험에 갇히지 않게 하고, (3) 고백과 용서의 경험을 통해 하나님과 이웃과의 정직한 관계를 통한 참된 교제를 구축하게 하며, (4) 말씀 읽기를 통해 자신의 편집된 이야기에 권위와 가치를 부여하는 삶에서 참된 회복의 이야기에 참여하게 하는 삶을 추구하게 한다. 신학교육은 커리큘럼과 삶의 방식을 통해 디지털 기술에 의한 변화된 생태에서 지속적으로 하나님을 사랑하고 인간과의 충실한 관계를 구축할 수 있는 삶을 형성하도록 이끄는 것이다. 오늘날 신학교육의 새로운 생태 곧 디지털 기술 사회의 환경은 단순한 선택 여부를 결정하거나 교육 내용 전달 방식의 도구를 넘어 하나님과의 이웃 그리고 세상과의 관계 안에서 그리스도를 따르는 방식의 삶을 신실하게 지속할 수 있도록 교회와 학교에서 더욱 전략적으로 노력할 것을 요구한다.

This short article analyzes the new ecology of faith formation emerging in a digital society shaped by digital technologies and furthermore examines, from a liturgical perspective, the tasks of theological education that foster faithful Christian formation. In particular, this study offers a critical reflection on how discipleship?as faith formation?takes place within a digital society and proposes liturgical tasks that respond to this context. Theological education for faith formation in a digital society requires more than the efficient transmission of gospel content and information through media technologies. It calls for intentional strategies and formative practices that engage the whole of life. The formative power of worship is articulated through: (1) embracing and strengthening the cultural and formative function inherent in liturgical practice itself; (2) enabling embodied participation in the Eucharist so that faith formation is not confined to limited experiences of community mediated by digital connectivity alone; (3) cultivating genuine communion through practices of confession and forgiveness that foster truthful relationships with God and others; and (4) inviting believers, through the reading of Scripture, to move beyond self-edited narratives of life and to participate in the authoritative and restorative story of God. By examining worship as a formative practice, this article clarifies the orientation of theological education in a digital society. Theological education seeks to shape lives capable of sustaining faithful loving God and cultivating faithful relationships with others within the context of digital technologies. The emerging digital ecology demands that churches and theological schools move beyond questions of technological choice or methods of content delivery and instead engage more strategically in forming practices of life that enable faithful participation in God’s redemptive work in relation to God, neighbor, and the world.
