법교육은 사회통합교육에서 시작되어 시민성교육, 범죄예방교육으로 그 범위가 확장되어 왔다. 범죄예방의 차원에서 법교육의 효과는 교육대상자의 사회적 유대를 복원하여 재범 의 가능성을 줄인다는 사회통제이론으로 설명될 수 있다. 미국을 중심으로 이루어진 우 회교육으로서 법교육 프로그램들은 대상자들의 법적 권위체에 대한 신뢰를 높이고 자존 감과 규범에 대한 존중을 갖도록 하여 재범을 크게 줄이는 효과를 거두고 있다. 우리나 라의 보호관찰영역에도 이와 같은 법교육 프로그램들이 적극적으로 도입될 필요가 있다.

Law-Related Education which started from social unification has been developed to citizenship and delinquency prevention education. The effects of LRE in delinquency prevention can be explained by social control theory in the view of restoring the social bondage. LRE as diversion programs implemented mainly in America, have been successful in improving the trust to legal authorities, self confidence, respect for rules and reducing the recidivism. LRE diversion education programs should be brought to probation process in Korea.
