Background: The purpose of this study is to identify the elements for the construction of the Korean academy of orthopedic manipulative physical therapy’s (KAOMPT's) non-face-to-face lecture system using the Delphi method. Methods: The Delphi method was applied to 50 expert panel members of the Central Committee and the Provincial Branch of the KAOMPT. The Delphi survey was conducted in two rounds, and the first Delphi survey collected opinions on 40 questions on 12 topics. The second Delphi survey was collected into 25 questions on 4 topics. As a result of the survey, the content validity ratio (CVR), consensus and convergence were measured. Referring to the number of expert panels and previous studies were determine a CVR of at least 2.29, a consensus of at least .75 and a convergence of 0 to .5. Result: In the first Delphi result, out of the total 40 items, 20 items with high content validity ratio were found, and 10 items found double agreement. In the second Delphi result, 13 out of the total 25 items had a content validity ratio higher than 2.29, and 5 items found a double agreement. Conclusion: This study derived items on the role of central and municipal councils, lecture support and lecture room construction, non-face regular course and special lecture operation and personnel for the establishment of non-face-to-face lecture system. Based on this content, it is expected that it will help establish a non-face-to-face lecture system in 2021 through a pilot non-face-to-face lecture that will be implemented in the future.

Background: The serratus anterior and upper trapezius muscles act synergistically to allow for an appropriate scapulothoracic rhythm. However, a decrease in serratus anterior activation causes the upper trapezius to become overactivated, resulting in dysfunction. This study compared serratus anterior and upper trapezius muscle activity according to sling angle and compared serratus anterior strength between healthy adults and patients with shoulder instability. Methods: Twenty participants (10 healthy adults and 10 patients with shoulder instability) were included in this study. The participants had their arms extended at sling angles of 30°, 60°, and 90° in reach forward with shoulder flexion using goniometer. Serratus anterior strength was measured three times while the participants were supine. The outcome measures were surface electromyography amplitude of the upper trapezius and serratus anterior and serratus anterior strength. Results: The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that the upper trapezius was significantly different between healthy group and shoulder instability group at a sling angle of 60°, and both the upper trapezius and serratus anterior exhibited significant differences at 90°. Moreover, a significant difference was noted in the muscle strength of the serratus anterior. Conclusion: Our results provide novel and promising clinical evidence that patients with shoulder instability have decreased serratus anterior activation and upper trapezius overactivation, resulting in muscle imbalance. In addition, there was a significant difference between the healthy group and shoulder instability group in the serratus anterior muscle strength

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of muscle energy technique (MET) and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) on knee extension ROM, knee extensor/flexor strength and muscle thickness immediately and after 24 hours. Methods: A total of 30 subjects participated in this study. The participants were assigned to either MET (n=15) or IASTM (n=15). 90-90 straight leg raise, knee extensor/flexor muscle strength, muscle thickness test were measured before, immediately after and 24 hours after the intervention. Results: Both groups significantly improved knee extension ROM on immediate (MET 10.7°, IASTM 10.21° increased) and after 24 hours assessment (MET 5.61°, IASTM 5.47° increased)(p<.05). In the MET group, knee extension and flexion muscle strength increased immediately after intervention (p<.05). In the IASTM group, knee extension muscle strength increased and knee flexor muscle strength decreased immediately after intervention (p<.05). Furthermore, both groups showed a pattern of returning to the initial strength after 24 hours. In both groups, no significant difference in muscle thickness immediately and after 24 hours was observed (p>.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, MET and IASTM technique showed lasting effectiveness in flexibility of shortened hamstring immediately after and in 24 hours after the intervention. In both groups, MET increased muscle strength and increased ROM, while IASTM decreased muscle strength and increased ROM, with no change in muscle thickness.

Background: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is common knee disorder encountered in clinical: notably, altered hip biomechanic may contribute to PFPS. In this study, We investigated the effects of hip joint mobilization on pain, balance, and gait in patients with PFPS. Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to a control group (n=18) or an experimental group (n=20). Both groups received exercise therapy thrice a week for 4 weeks. The experimental group performed additional hip joint mobilization thrice a week for 4 weeks. Measurement were obtained in each patient pre-intervention and post-intervention (after 4 weeks). Results: The assessed items included the visual analog scale (VAS), one leg standing test (OLS), timed up and go test (TUG), and the 10m walk test (10MWT). Post-intervention assessment showed significantly improved results in both groups (p<.01). A significant intergroup difference was observed only in the results of the 10MWT (p<.05). Conclusion: Our results indicate that hip joint mobilization with exercise therapy may be useful to improve PFPS.

Background: The purpose of this survey was to know the current states and future suggestions of orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) system on Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were directly distributed to physical therapists who participated in the training and collected at the educational or clinical site. The questionnaire was sent and collected by E-mail. Data were classified into two groups, metropolitan and city, and clinical experience was grouped into four groups. Then, 337 subjects (male: 195, female: 142) were recruited from us. Results: The states of Korea, 72.1% of therapists have been executed orthopedic manual physical therapy, the fee of one treatment was 50,000 ~ 60,000 Korean won, the time of treatment was 21~30 minutes, the number of patients of one day was under 9. The suggestion of future orthopedic manual physical therapy of Korea, 83.4% of therapist were agreed with manual physical therapy system, the education center of certificate for manual therapist was manual therapy academic group, the career of clinical experiences was 3 years, the training hours was more 300 hours, academic degree was diploma. Conclusion: In the future orthopedic manual physical therapy proposal, the environment and education system differ from country to country, but Korean OMPT agreed to an accredited orthopedic manual physical therapy system and wanted systematic management.

Background: The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effects of the ankle mobilization with movement (MWM) technique on ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM), balance, and gait in patients who underwent total knee replacement (TKR). Methods: Thirty patients with knee osteoarthritis were recruited and randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group (EG; n=15) and the control group (CG; n=15). For five days a week for 3 weeks, participants in the EG were treated with the ankle MWM technique and traditional total knee replacement (TKR) exercise, and those in the CG only performed traditional TKR exercises. The dorsiflexion ROM, balance, and gait of the patients were before and after exercise. Results: Balance system SD was used compare changes in dynamic balance. Patients in the EG group showed statistically significant differences after the intervention (p<.05). In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in dynamic balance between the EG and CG groups after the intervention (p<.05). STT-IBS was used to compare changes in velocity, step length, stride length, and ankle dorsiflexion ROM. Patients in the EG group showed statistically significant differences after the intervention (p<.05). In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in the velocity, step length, stride length, and ankle dorsiflexion ROM between the EC and CG groups after the intervention (p<.05). Conclusion: Our results showed that applying the ankle MWM technique with traditional TKR exercises improved ankle dorsiflexion ROM, dynamic balance, and gait in patients.
