This article examined Imchun(林椿)'s prose works and literary achievements during the period of seizure of political power by military officials in Koryo Dynasty. Most of Imchun's 53 prose works are letters of recommendation which straightly represented his misfortune unhappiness, so that they are lack of suggestion, but it should be noted that they contributed to a regular style of prose of personal character(哀祭類, 論說類, 贈序類, etc) in which personality of authors is likely to be relatively exposed.Imchun, through his literary talent, represented a strong desire for reality participation, which can be grasped from the descriptions that stressed not concealment(隱) but display(顯) while he recorded a biography of an ascetic. Also, he expresses not only his grief over the deceased in a funeral address, but an appeal against oppression and righteous indignation against injustice in various parts of his works, together representing his misfortune shape. Furthermore, he in earnest established ancient writings(古文) by positively accepting ancient writings of Dang and Song Dynasty(唐宋 古文) and extendingㆍdeepening the style of prose, and tried to reform the literary spirit of those times. Accordingly, Imchun's prose study would give an opportunity to confirm his position, from the point of literary history, in the Koryo literary circles as well as in the period of seizure of political power by military officials.

본고는 고려 무신집권기의 임춘의 산문 세계와 문학사적 성취를 고찰한 논문이다. 임춘의 산문 53편은 대부분이 추천서이고, 자신의 불우함을 직설적으로 토로하는 작품이 많아 여운이 적지만, 작가의 개성이 상대적으로 발휘되기 쉬운 私的 산문(哀祭類, 論說類, 贈序類 등)의 본격화에 一助한 점은 간과할 수 없는 부분이다.임춘은 자신의 文才를 통해 현실 진출에 대한 강한 열망을 드러내었는데, 이것은 도사의 일대기를 기록하면서 隱보다 顯에 중점을 둔 서술에서 이를 간취할 수 있다. 또한 그는 제문에서 망자에 대한 슬픔을 토로하는 것에 그치는 것이 아니라 억울함에 대한 하소연과 부당함에 대한 강개함을 작품 곳곳에 배치하고 있으며, 자신의 불우한 모습도 함께 투영하고 있다. 게다가 그는 당송 고문을 적극적으로 수용하고 활용하여 산문의 양식을 확장ㆍ심화함으로써 古文의 본격적 정립하였으며, 이를 통해 당시의 문풍을 쇄신하려고 하였다. 따라서 임춘의 산문 연구는 무신집권기뿐만 아니라 고려 문단에서 차지하는 그의 문학사적 위상을 확인할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다.
