Information technology (IT) process standards are widely achieved by organizations, especially in IT industry, not only to improve their capabilities but also to provide better services to their clients. In South Korea, most major IT vendors are spin-offs — subsidiary IT firms separated from their conglomerate groups but still are the members of affiliates in their conglomerate groups. These IT vendors take a large part of the South Korean market due to the guaranteed contracts with their affiliates’ IT departments. However, as the market became bigger and more mature, and foreign vendors participated more in the market, South Korean vendors began to introduce diverse IT process standards, such as CMMI, SPICE, eSCM and ITIL, to enhance their apabilities, albeit without sufficient deliberation. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to identify major IT process standards that have been achieved by IT vendors and to examine their impact on firm performance. A survey was done to gather data. This paper covers the survey and analysis from the results to see how vendors improve their IT capabilities by achieving what kind of IT process standards.
