The purpose of this study was to examine the relations between the friendship network and psychological wellbeing for the elderly. The friendship relations were measured by several
variables such as number of friends and social support, while the psychological wellbeing was measured by the happiness and depression scales for the 302 elderly respondents. Both happiness and depression levels for the elderly people were significantly related with the variable psychological support among all the friendship relation variables from the regression analysis. However, the subjective health was the most significant variable accounting
for the psychological wellbeing when considering both the friendship relation and socio-demographic variables in the regression analysis.

본 연구는 60세 이상의 남성 120명과 여성 182명을 상대로 교우관계와 심리적 안녕감의 관계를 살피는 것이었다. 교우관계는 친구와 접촉하는 빈도, 상호작용의 내용, 교우관계의 지속기간, 생활양식이나 가치관의 동질성 등으로 측정하였으며, 심리적 안녕감은 행복감과 우울증으로 측정하였다. 행복감과 우울증 모두 교우관계의 내용 중 심리적 지원의 상호작용과 가장 밀접한 관계를 보였다. 그렇지만 사회
인구학적 변인을 고려한 상태로 분석했을 때 교우관계의 요인들보다 건강이라는 사회인구학적 변인이 노인들의 심리적 안녕감에 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있었다.
