The research on the national traditional thoughts in the history is a very important task because it not only contributes to developing of our theoretical thinking but also to introducing our spiritual heritage to international scholars and friends. However, only after the Unification (since 1975) the research has been promoted strongly. As a result, many important research works have been
published. The questions like: whether there exist in Vietnam a kind of philosophy or what are the subject matter and methods of the research on Vietnamese philosophical thoughts or what is the future of the research on Vietnamese philosophical thoughts…have been urgently raised and debated.
We can say that Vietnamese philosophical thoughts are essentially the thoughts of social philosophy and human life. First, Vietnamese philosophical thoughts have emerged due to the demands of concrete historical periods for the struggle against foreign aggressions and national construction. Second, Vietnamese philosophical thoughts are the dialectical inheritance from previous imported doctrines, especially those of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and then combined selectively with our indigenous cultural thoughts. Third, the manifestations of Vietnamese philosophical thoughts are various: even in the forms of literature, history,
traditional medicine …
The future of the research on Vietnamese philosophical thoughts is very bright because we have a huge arsenal of historical documents and recorded data. The specialty of history of Vietnamese philosophical thoughts is only in beginning stages: the demands and expectations our society has from it are very high.
