- This paper examines the effect of attitude toward reading and leisure reading in Korean and in English on translation competence among from English to Korean. Korean undergraduate students taking translation courses participated in the study. Results indicate that attitude toward had a positive effect on translation competence mediated by leisure reading in Korean and in English. Leisure reading in Korean had a positive effect on translation competence mediated by reading in English. Implications for practice and teaching translation are discussed.
