The article evaluates implications of Gordon Lathrop's liturgical criticism to the task of worship renewal in Korean context. Gordon Lathrop is one of contemporary representatives of so called liturgical theology. Liturgical theology presupposes that the rhetorical pattern of liturgical ordo is not a decorative or expressive device for worship experience but rather a source and creator of liturgical experience. Lathrop characterizes the pattern and task of liturgical ordo as "biblical," sacramental, or christological. He finds biblical rhetoric of juxtaposition and its task to have the old thing speak the new in the liturgical rhetoric of ordo. Christian liturgy juxtaposes the old things (time, language, eating, washing) with the death and rise of Jesus Christ. Rhetorical task is to have congregation experience the old things in a new way, that is, as the witness or sacrament of Jesus Christ. Analysis of the nature of pattern and task of liturgical ordo is to
establish the principle of criticism. If the liturgical experience is shaped and created through the liturgical ordo of juxtaposition, the task of liturgical criticism is to evaluate two aspects: if the signs or old things are spacious and strong enough to embrace concrete human life and if the
frame of juxtaposition is tightly managed with tension and paradox so that old life is broken to open to new dimension in the grace of Jesus Christ. The article positvely evaluates Lathrop's principle of criticism as a dialogue partner on the way to liturgical renewal in Korean context.

예배적 신학의(liturgical theology) 대표적 학자 중 하나인 루터교 예배학자 고든 래트롭의 예배비평론이 한국교회 예배 갱신 과제에 줄 수 있는 적극적함의들을 평가한다. 래트롭의 예배적 신학은 예배순서라는 수사적 패턴이 예배경험을 조형하고 창출한다는 전제 위에 세워져 있다. 그리고 그리스도교적
예배 경험을 만들어내는 이 구조의 성격과 과제를 성서적, 사크라멘트적, 기독론적 차원에서 밝힌다. 이렇게 밝혀진 예배의 병치적 구조와 과제가 바로 예배비평적 원리가 된다. 예배는 병치 패턴을 순서(ordo)의 수사적 구조로 삼고있다. 시간, 언어, 식사, 씻음과 같은 이 세계의 싸인을 예수 그리스도의 죽음과 부활에 병치시킨다. 예배의 과제는 이러한 병치를 통해 시간, 언어, 식사, 씻음이 그리스도의 은총 안에서 회중들에게 새로운 것 즉 주일, 복음, 하늘의 잔치, 그리스도와의 일치로 경험되도록 하기 위함이다. 예배 경험이 예배의 병치 구조에 담겨져 있다면 예배비평이 주목해야 할 것은 이 병치라는 수사적
구조를 이루고 있는 한축으로서의 예배의 옛 것들(싸인들: 시간, 식사, 언어)이 회중들의 삶을 담을 만큼 넉넉하고 강력한가 그리고 이러한 병치 구조가 다른 축인 예수 그리스도와 함께 긴장과 탄력 안에서 유지되고 있는가이다. 이러한 비평원리가 한국교회 예배 갱신 작업에 주는 함의들을 평가한다.
