This qualitative research focused on how young children with disabilities experienced music activities in inclusive child-care center. Data from 7 week observation of the researcher, and interview from three teachers, five special educators, and eighteen young children without disabilities were analyzed. The results of the study were composed of four main themes: 1) "I like music," 2) "I change of myself in music activities," 3) "Others who know me are changed in music activities," and 4) "music activities are important for my IEP objective accomplishment." In addition, eight sub themes were revealed. Children with special needs used music as a method of communication to share emotion with each other and to interact with peers equally. IEP objectives were accomplished through music activities, and objectives of social/emotional skills were being accomplished. Music activities were so helpful to change children with special needs, others, and relations with others. Thus, through them IEP objectives could be accomplished. However, it is proposed that music activities be organized for IEP objective of cognition, self-help, and verbal/communication skills.

이 연구는 통합유아교육기관에서 실시되는 교과과정의 음악활동에서 장애유아가 어떤 경험을 하는지에 연구의 초점을 둔 질적연구이다. 이 연구는 7주간 시행되었으며 질적인 자료 분석을 위하여 본 연구자의 관찰일지와 일반교사 3명, 통합지원교사 5명, 일반유아 18명에게 면담을 실시하여 본 연구자는 그 내용을 수집, 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, ‘나는 음악이 좋다.’, 둘째, ‘음악활동에서 내 자신이 변화된다.’ 셋째, ‘음악활동에서 나를 아는 다른 사람들이 변화된다.’. 넷째, ‘음악활동은 나의 IEP 목표성취를 돕는 중요한 활동이다.’라는 4개의 주제가 나타났으며 8개의 하위주제가 나타났다. 이 연구는 통합유아교육기관에서 실시되는 음악활동이 장애유아에게 개인적, 사회적인 변화를 경험케 하는 유익한 활동이지만 장애유아의 다양한 영역의 IEP 목표가 성취되는 경험을 할 수 있도록 계획된 음악활동을 제공해야 한다는 음악활동의 나갈 방향성을 제시하였다.
