This article concerns the difference between film and animation. I differentiate the film from animation in that the former produces an illusion of reality, the latter gives an illusion of life. Film is basically based on the photographic realism, while animation on the deformation of reality. So we might say that film concerns the death instinct, Thanatos, and animation the life instinct, Eros. The article's ultimate aim is to establish the philosophical foundation of animation by clarifying its fantasgomaric but unique nature.
