The purpose of this study is to show the structure of Hye Kang Choi, Han-Kee´s ‘ChiHak(氣學)’.
So cores of Hye Kang cogitation such as Chi(氣) and SinChi(神氣), Tong(通) and ChuCheuk(推測), Li(理) and UnWha(運化) are extracted. And this study establishes structure of ChiHak
systematically.
As source of all things, material(有形) Chi coheres shape(質), then SinChi of subjective
character is created. So SinChi accumulates experience and history through(通, Tong) sensory
organs. Also it operates ChuCheuk that includes consideration, guess, selection and so on. Then
it has to follow DaeChiUnWha that means YouHaengJiLi(流行之理) especially among logic(條理)
of Chi. At structure of ChiHak, DaeChiUnWha means the highest standard of right and wrong
judgment. And on the one hand it means physical nature, on the other hand moral law of
objective․universal properties. Also it includes attitude of modest acceptance. In short, Hye
Kang presents following contents.
Firstly, one universal law exists to solve problems of human and society. Secondly, the law is demonstrated through objective method. Thirdly, moral attitude is demanded to accept the law modestly.

본고는 혜강 최한기의 기학(氣學)의 구조를 수립하는 것을 목표로 한다. 그러나 본고는, 혜강의 기학이 도덕교육론에 있어 지니는 의의를 드러내기 위한 논의의 과정 중 첫 번째 단계에 해당하는 것이다. 필자는 그 의의를 짧은 지면으로 드러내기 어렵다고 판단하여 우선 혜강이 제시하는 기학의 구조를 수립하고자 하였다. 따라서 본고가 혜강 기학이 지니는 도덕교육론적 성격을 드러내지는 않는다. 그러나 그것은 본고와 이어지는 논문들에서 뚜렷하게 전개될 것이다.
필자는 우선 지나치게 반복적으로 서술되는 기학의 여러 개념들 중 대표적인 여섯 가지를 추출하였다. 그리고 그 여섯 가지를 밀접한 연관이 있는 것끼리 재분류해서 각각 기(氣)와 신기(神氣), 통(通)과 추측(推測), 리(理)와 운화(運化)라는 세 단계로 제시하여 그 체계를 세워봄으로써, 혜강의 전반적인 사유 구조를 수립하고자 하였다. 먼저 기학의 근본인 기(氣)와 신기(神氣)의 개념을 밝힌다. 그리고 공부 과정으로서의 통(通)과 추측(推測) 및 선악 판단의 중추인 리(理)와 운화(運化)에 대해서 차례로 제시한다. 그러나 유의해야 할 점은 이런 개념적 구분과 분류는 논의의 편의와 초점의 집중성을 위한 것이며, 그의 기학 체계는 이 개념들이 모두 일통(一統)을 향해 아우러져 있음을 전제한다는 것이다.
