- The value of filial piety brings about the tragedy of 「Gojo」's. Akinari wanted to tell us this in 「Sikubinoegao」. Filial piety is great moral. During the Edo era, people valued filial piety above everything. Akinari hoped to find the reason that a man who is dutiful to his parents is apt to be unhappy.
Which is the best way to live when a man is in discord with human's morals and instinct?
Should a man contain his feeling in order to fulfill human's morals? 「Gojo」gives us some questions about the filial piety for his parents and love for his sweetheart.
We can not find this kind of conflicts in 『The story of Masurao』 However,
Akinari tell us discord with human's morals and instinct with 「Gojo」 in 「Sikubinoegao」. Psychical expression of 「Gojo」 makes 「Sikubinoegao」 of great value.
