The purpose of this study was to apply coteaching to the student-teaching of pre-service teachers and identify the usefulness of coteaching as pre-service teachers education strategy. We observed the student-teaching classes where two or more teachers taught students together in the same classroom. Then, the pre-service teachers and the students participated in coteaching were interviewed, and the taped videos and the interview transcripts were analyzed. In data analysis, four themes emerged that showed the usefulness of the coteaching. The first was ‘learning on the spot of teaching', where the pre-service teacher who faced challenging situation in teaching were assisted by his/her professors, who helped the pre-service teacher solve problems by providing direct support. Through this process, the pre-service teacher learned practical knowledge. The second theme was ‘reflection through the legitimate peripheral participation’, where the pre-service teacher objectively reflected on his/her own teaching practice in the peripheral situation and then attempted to improve his/her teaching methods. The third theme was ‘mutually supplementary roles of the pre-service teachers’, where they provided the positive assistances to their teaching performance mutually, so that the entire class progressed smoothly. The last theme was ‘teaching in the comfortable state’, where the pre-service teachers shared responsibility in teaching through participating together in the class. This helped them develop confidence in teaching. From this study, we found that coteaching provided the student-teaching opportunities where the pre-service teachers could develop the professional and practical knowledge on teaching in more comfortable conditions through connecting the teaching to the practice.

이 연구의 목적은 예비 교사들의 교육 실습에 코티칭을 도입하고, 예비 교사 교육 방안으로서 코티칭의 유용성을 확인하는데 있다. 코티칭은 두 명 이상의 교사가 수업을 함께 진행하는 방법이며, 이를 활용한 예비 교사들의 교육 실습 수업을 관찰하였다. 그리고 코티칭에 참여한 예비 교사들과 학생들을 대상으로 면담을 실시하고, 수업 촬영 내용과 면담 자료를 전사하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 토대로 코티칭의 유용성을 네 가지 측면에서 확인하였다. 첫 번째는 ‘수업 현장에서 배우기’로, 예비 교사가 수업 중 문제 상황에 직면하였을 때 지도 교수가 직접적인 도움을 제공함으로써 문제를 해결할 수 있었다. 그리고 예비 교사는 이 과정을 통해 수업 현장에서 필요한 실천적 지식을 배울 수 있었다. 두 번째는 ‘합법적인 주변적 참여를 통한 반성’으로, 예비 교사가 주변적 위치에서 자신의 수업을 객관적으로 반성하고, 수업 방법을 향상시키기 위하여 노력하였다. 세 번째는 ‘예비 교사들의 상호 보완적 역할’로, 예비 교사들이 서로의 교수 활동에 긍정적 지원을 제공하여 수업이 원활히 진행되었다. 마지막은 ‘편안한 상태에서 수업하기’로, 두 예비 교사들이 수업에 함께 참여함으로써 수업에 대한 책임감을 공유하였다. 그 결과 예비 교사들은 수업에 대한 자신감을 키울 수 있었다. 이 연구를 통해 코티칭이 수업과 실습을 유기적으로 연계하여, 예비 교사들이 수업에 관한 전문적이고 실제적인 지식과 능력을 보다 편안한 상태에서 개발해 갈 수 있는 실습 기회를 제공해 줄 수 있음을 알 수 있다.
