This study aims construction of moral educational contents in elementary level for fostering sound characters and developing elementary students' morality through understanding our mother language and its moral usage. We generally think that language education is a part of Korean education, but we can consider language education not just as Korean education, but as moral education because language is influenced by recognition and thoughts, and language itself influences them, too. From this point of view that language contains value and social agreement, using proper language with moral sense finally affects language users consciousness, emotion and morality positively. Therefore we need to have our standpoint that learning Korean precisely and using it morally right is an effective method to cultivate the students' character and title of respect. This study focused on proper language use with respect in curriculum of moral education in elementary level. I checked the necessary item needed to design contents viewed in this light.

본 연구는 우리말의 올바른 이해와 도덕적 활용을 통해 초등학생들의 건전한 인격 함양과 도덕성 발달을 위한 초등 도덕과 교육내용의 구조화를 목표로 하고 있다. 일반적으로 언어교육은 국어과 내지 언어교육 쪽에서 담당해야 할 것으로 알고 있으나, 말 또는 포괄적인 의미에서 언어가 인지와 사고에 영향을 받을 뿐만 아니라 그것에 영향을 미치고 있다는 점에서 그리고 말 자체에 가치관이나 사회적 합의를 담고 있다는 점에서 말의 올바른 사용 내지 도덕적 형식에 따른 사용은 종국적으로 사용자의 의식과 감정뿐만 아니라 도덕성에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 점에서 더 이상 국어과 내지 언어교육만의 문제가 아닌 도덕과와 깊이 연관된 문제라고 판단할 수 있다.
따라서 초등 도덕과는 기존의 말 내지 언어라고 하는 분파적인 시각에서 벗어나 우리말의 올바른 이해 및 도덕적 활용에 눈을 돌려 이를 통한 초등학생들의 도덕적 성장과 인격의 함양에 효율적인 방법의 하나로 활용할 수 있어야 한다. 이와 같은 측면에서 본 연구는 초등 도덕과에서 올바른 언어사용 예절 및 그 이해에 초점을 두고 내용을 구성하기 위해 요구되는 사항들을 점검하고, 이를 효율적으로 구조화하는데 그 의미를 두고 있다.
