The China-Korea educational exchange has enjoyed long history and tradition. In the 20th century, however, the diplomatic relationship between the two countries became strained due to differences in political ideologies. Thanks to the introduction of reform and market opening policy in China and changes in the international political climate and Korean economy and politics, however, China and Korea have reestablished friendly ties. Still, studies on the China-Korea educational exchange failed to do justice to the glorious history and tradition of such relationship. This study sought to trace the history of the China-Korea educational exchange and to present the future direction of such relationship as well as its significance. Specifically, the author looked into the effects of education from China on Korea and how it became institutionalized in Korea. Efforts and activities related to educational exchange were also analyzed vis-à-vis the educational demands and needs of each period to address the issue of educational independence. Finally, suggestions on the future direction of the China-Korea educational exchange were made based on the abovementioned assessment of its history. There is undeniable evidence of the active educational exchange between China and Korea in the past. This suggests that the two countries have shared many common areas in education. Though the contents and method may vary due to the periodic and political effects, the two countries have undoubtedly engaged in educational exchange for a long time.

한중 교육교류는 오랜 역사와 전통을 유지해왔다. 20세기 들어 한때 정치적 이념의 차이로 양국의 관계가 소원해지기도 했다. 그러나 중국의 개혁개방정책, 세계정세의 변화, 그리고 한국의 정치경제적 변화를 통하여 한중 관계는 다시 과거처럼 밀접한 관계를 구축해나가고 있다. 그러나 과거 한중 전통교육의 역사에 비해 한중 교육교류에 대한 연구는 기대에 미치지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 첫째, 중국과의 교육적 교류가 형성된 시기부터 현재까지 한중 교육교류과정을 이해하고 향후 한중 교육교류의 방향 및 이러한 교육교류가 지니는 의의에 대해 살펴보았다. 둘째, 중국의 교육이 한국에 어떻게 영향을 미치고 한국에서 어떻게 토착화되었는지 살펴보았다. 셋째, 교육의 자주성에 비추어 시대마다 어떻게 교육교류가 이루어졌는지 살펴보았다. 넷째, 향후 한중 교육교류에 대한 교육사적 고찰을 통해 한중 교육교류는 어떠한 방향으로 나아가야 할지를 모색해보았다.과거 한중 교육교류가 활발하게 이루어졌음을 나타내는 교육요소가 곳곳에 남아 있다. 이는 한국과 중국이 서로 많은 교육적 공감대를 가지고 있었음을 말한다. 시대적정치적 영향에 따라 교육내용이나 교류의 방법에 다소 차이는 있지만 서로 오랫동안 교육교류가 있었음은 명확하다.
