In his fifties, Lee Saek had been in Beodlgol leaving the center of Kaekyung. It is then and there that he wrote most of his poems which are handed down up to now. In this paper, I consider some poems whose subject matters are "daily life", especially focusing on "the mode of association" and "the image of a person who works for living". Beodlgol is the borderland between center and hometown. In there, he kept up with the outside world, while he came into a close relation with his neighbor Han Su(韓脩), sharing each others' feeling in cultural lives and developing their spiritual ties. In this sense, Beodlgol was an ideal place for association. On the other hand, Beodlgol , as a place for his residence for a while, was a realistic place for his existence. He expressed frankly the grim realities of life, while he gazed at the familiar things around him and considered the value of the ordinaries of life. He drew some moral lessons through these affairs. His association with Han Su was a kind of action which confirmed the common goals and pursued an ideal through "relationship". On the other hand, he was agonized by the gap between his actual life as an individual and the universal ideal and tried to overcome it. It can be said that his everyday life was the course of changing himself. Lee Saek wrote poems in his daily life trying to find a desirable relationship with the realities of life. With all these things, he could enlarge his understanding on life. In it, there was an encounter between his life and poems, and a reflux between daily life and philosophy. That is a significance of his everyday life and poems in his "Beodlgol days".

이색(李穡)은 50대 초⋅중반에 개경의 중심부에서 물러나 버들골에 머물고 있었다. 그의 현전하는 시 대부분은 이 시기, 이곳에 머물고 있을 때 지어진 것이다. 본고는 이중에서 ‘일상’을 다룬 시들에 주목하되, 특히 ‘교유의 양상’과 ‘생활인의 모습’을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 버들골은 중심과 고향 사이에 얹혀 있는 경계공간이다. 그는 세상과의 관계를 지속하는 한편 서쪽의 이웃 한수(韓脩)와 문화적으로 교감하고 정신적으로 유대하면서 진정한 우정을 나누었다. 그런 의미에서 버들골은 훌륭한 교유공간이었다. 그러나 이곳은, 임시 거주민으로서 생활의 문제를 해결해야 하는 현실공간이기도 했다. 그는 생활의 고통을 숨김없이 드러내기도 하고, 일상 자체가 소중하다는 생각을 가지고 주변의 친근한 것들을 응시하고 그 의미를 숙고했다. 한수와의 교유가 ‘관계’를 통해 공동의 정신적 지향을 확인하고 이상을 추구해 나가는 과정이었다면, 생활은 ‘개인’으로서 삶의 현실과 보편적 이상의 틈에서 갈등하고 또 극복하면서 인식의 변화와 확장을 이루어 나가는 과정이었다. 이색은 현실과의 긴장을 유지한 채 일상의 리듬 속에 자기를 싣고 쉼 없이 시를 지으면서 바람직한 관계를 모색하고 삶에 대한 인식의 지평을 넓혀 나갔다. 그 과정에서 시(詩)와 삶이 만나고, 일상(日常)과 철학(哲學)이 환류(還流)되었다. 이것이 이색의 버들골 시절 일상과 그 시의 심중한 의의이다.
