The purpose of the study is to analyze achievement, defect and problems in older adult education during 35years and to suggest perspectives and tasks. The needs of older adult education in knowledge society could be explained in social and personal respects such as maintenance of role as society member, the change to nuclear family system, adoption of new sense of value and problem solving skills. For the achievement of older adult education the number of educational institutions are increased but the quality of program contents still stay in entertainment level not in education level. Even though Ministry of Education tried to support older adult education programs in universities to facilitate but failed. Many studies on older adult education published testified the effect of education in old ages and positive results came out. The problems faced older adult education in Korea is no systematic and no difference of education institutions. the lack of programs, no educational policy from the government and negative engagement of universities. The future of older adult education is positive since future olders(babyboomers) are quite different from olders at present with regard to higher education, better income and high ratio of uses of internet. To activate older adult education in Korea, tasks of establishing systematic level of older adult education institution, building national network of older adult education up, conducting core role of university and being supported by foundations are needed.

여가복지시설의 교육기관수는 양적으로 팽창했으나 고령인구에 비해서는 아직도 많이 부족한 형편이다. 특히 이런 교육시설도 도시에 편중된 경향이 있어 지방에는 노인인구에 비해 상대적으로 적은 수의 교육기관을 가지고 있다. 프로그램은 여전히 초기의 오락수준 프로그램들에서 벗어나지 못하고 있어 프로그램의 질적 수준 향상은 크게 발전하지 못했다고 할 수 있다.
