The purpose of this study is to answer such question as "What is the elementary practical arts education?", "What is the meaning of the elementary practical arts education?", "How do we teach elementary practical arts education?", "Why are we ought to teach elementary practical arts education?", "How and what do we review elementary practical arts education?" and "How do we know that those facts and methods are valid?"The results of this study are as follows; 1. The practical arts education is a subject matter of elementary education with the purpose to resolve practical problem through experience of practical activity.2. The discipline of background is composed of the core discipline and relation discipline. The core discipline include technology, home economy, agriculture and relation discipline include career education, information technology, life environment. 3. In the legitimacy of practical arts education is deal with purpose, content, teaching system, research domain. 4. In the nature of practical arts education is deal with concept, character of elementary practical arts education. 5. The study also reviewed the philosophical, psychological, and social foundation of elementary practical arts education. The results of this study suggested a new approach into the comprehension of the educational phenomena and possibility of understanding practical arts education as a whole

본 학회는 처음 실과 교과서에 참여한 인사를 중심으로 1989년 실과 교육 연구회로 발족하였다가 1990년에 전국 규모의 회원을 갖고 학회 활동을 본격적으로 시작하였다. 본 학회는 한국의 실과 교육의 학문적 연구 및 현장 교육의 문제를 개선하는데 기여할 목적으로 설립되었고, 현재는 전국의 관련대학의 교수와 현장 교사가 참여하여 실과의 학문적 기초를 마련하는데 기여하고 있고, 현장의 문제해결에도 기여하면서 발전하고 있다.
