The purpose of this thesis is to give learners practical assistances by applying Kant's Categorical Imperative to real life. Kant stood on his ethical thought that human good will is
the only one that is itself good emphasizing man's willingness and self-motivation.
According to his theory, human recognition that his duty is to reveal his own good nature
can make things better, where we can find his optimistic view for life. He refers to the autonomy as a basis of Categorical Imperative.
The basis of human duty should be found only in his ability of self-control, autonomy. Moral responsibility is derived from the condition that people act on the autonomy, with which the theoretical explanation for morality and practical education will be finally established.
By Categorical Imperative a man is defined to have his own good will, in this sense, free
and dignified. It is not only means for discovering the definition of morality but revealing the
origin or basis of morality.
Today in Korea we respect the idea of diversity and individuality while we also have many
side effects from those social phenomena. The concern about the absence of values leads this
study to reinterpret the absolute truths such as respect for man's life and dignity, consideration for others, and so on.
And also by taking some problems students can face in school situations originated from the confusion of values this study has the opportunity to apply those cases to Kant's Categorical Imperative.
Kant's Categorical Imperative is considered to be the law of anachronism where he set too
demanding a criterion to realize in reality. One of the criticisms of Kant is that he was a man of rigorism who overlooked the reality and underestimated the consequences of man's behaviors.
But Kant maintained that the authentic morality should be a fundamental and universal one
surpassing practice. It should be that of love which springs up from the sincerity rather than
that of oppression where duties are performed by compulsion.
In addition it can direct us where and how we go under any situations as an end in itself. From this point of view, Kant's Categorical Imperative must be the true imperative of morality to give a solution to today's social problems.

본 연구는 칸트의 정언명법을 생활 속에서 적용해 봄으로써 학생들의 학습에 구체적인 도움이 되
고자 하는 취지에서 시작하게 되었다.
그 자체로 선한 것은 선의지 밖에 없으며 각자가 가진 내면의 선한 본성을 발현함이 스스로에 대한
의무라고 인식하는 데서 세상은 능히 선하게 바뀔 수 있다고 말한 칸트에게서 우리는 인간에 대한 그
의 긍정적인 시선을 느낄 수 있다.
칸트는 정언명법의 궁극적 근거로 자유를 들고 있다. 의무의 근거는 인간이 갖는 자기 지배의 능력,
즉 자율성에서만 찾아져야하기 때문이다. 인간이 자유 의지에 의해 행위할 때에 도덕적 책임을 물을
수 있고 자유라는 개념을 매개로 할 때 도덕성에 대한 이론적 설명과 실천적 교육이 가능해진다. 정
언명법을 통해 인간이 선의지를 지니고 있음을 확인할 수 있으며 그로써 인간은 자유를 지녔고, 그
때문에 존엄하다. 정언명법의 의의는 도덕성의 의미와 그 발견을 위한 수단이 될 수 있을 뿐만 아니
라 도덕성의 본래적인 근거 내지 본질을 밝히는 토대가 될 수 있다.
오늘날 한국 사회는 다양성과 개성을 존중하나 가치관의 혼란으로 인한 부작용 또한 만만찮다. 시
대를 거슬러도 변함없이 소중한 진리(인간 존엄성, 생명존중, 타인배려 등)와 가치들을 재해석하고 삶
속에서 구현할 기회를 가지고자 학생들이 생활 속에서 당면한 문제들을 발췌해 칸트의 정언명법에 비
추어 적용해 보고자 한다.
칸트의 정언명법은 실천하기 어려운 높은 기준을 정해 놓고 시대에 맞지 않는 권위적인 법칙이라고
인식될 수도 있다. 칸트에게 쏟아지는 비난 중 하나가 현실을 간과하는 엄숙주의(Rigorismus)자이자
행위의 결과에 대한 고려를 무시한다는 비난이다.
반면 상대주의적 도덕관에 반대했던 칸트는 ‘도덕이란 모든 관습적인 것을 뛰어넘는 보편적인 것’임
을 강조했다. 진정한 도덕은 의무를 강제로 수행하는 억압의 도덕이 아닌 진심에서 우러나오는 사랑
의 도덕이어야 하며 나아가 시대 상황과 가치관의 혼란 속에서 나아갈 방향을 제시해 주어야 한다.
그러한 관점에서 볼 때 정언명법은 이에 대해 하나의 해결방안을 주기에 충분하다고 생각된다.
