This study contains the topics of attempts to draw consequences from Rorty's ethical solidarity theory and Emmanuel Levinas’s ethical responsible theory. For R. Rorty, truth is just the name of a property which all true statements share. From the neo-pragmatist point of view the claim that the issues which the twentieth century enshrined in its textbooks as ‘Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity’. In fact, Rorty’s pragmatic notion of ethics would insist on breaking down distinctions between ethics and other academic fields. Rorty felt the questions of rationality and modernity had run their course and needed replacement with new languages with new questions. Solidarity is essential for Rorty in creating a tolerant and inclusive society. Creating solidarity requires an imaginative synthesis of the individual and the group. Rorty calls it an increase in ‘our sensitivity to the particular details of the pain and humiliation of other, unfamiliar sorts of people’. It is a transformation of the way we view others that are very different than ourselves. Solidarity is a complex community of varying differences united around certain contexts. His solidarity idea needs to complement Emmanuel Levinas's responsible idea. Emmanuel Levinas compares ethical responsibility to a maternal body who bears the Other in the same without assimilation. In Otherwise than Being, Emmanuel Levinas compares ethical responsibility to a maternal body that bears the Other without integrating him or her into the same. To be responsible is to bear the Other under one’s skin, in the flesh, and in spite of the pain that this might bring. To be responsible, then, is to substitute oneself for the Other in the sense of bearing responsibility for the Other’s own responsibility, and even for the persecution that she may inflict upon me. A touchstone for my sensible response to the Other has been Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics toward to other-oriented. I wish to construe the responsive ethics of respect for context mutually between R. Rorty's neo-pragmatic theory about truth and E. Levinas’s responsible ethical theory.

현대윤리의 상대주의와 회의주의를 극복하기 위해서는 맥락을 존중하며 타자를 지향하여 응답하는 실천지향의 윤리가 요청된다. 이러한 점에서 리처드 로티와 에마뉘엘 레비나스의 사유는 상호보완의 관점에서 현대윤리의 윤리적 이기주의 문제를 극복할 수 있는 대안으로 등장한다. 먼저 리처드 로티는 차이발견의 사고를 통해 이원적 표상주의를 거부하면서 언어시화의 메타포 창안, 사회실행의 연대성 창출방안의 맥락윤리를 제시하였다. 이러한 맥락 존중 사유를 통해 차이존중의 지향성을 발견하게 된다. 그런데 이러한 사유는 이타적 객관성 확보에는 어려움이 수반된다. 따라서 레비나스의 이타주의 사유의 보완을 통하여 맥락윤리에서 타자지향 의식의 실천으로 나아가, 이를 토대로 현대사회에서 윤리적 이타주의에 관한 형이상학적 근거를 마련할 수 있다. 이들 상호보완으로 연대성을 기초로 타자지향으로 나아가 이기심을 초월하는 응답성 책임윤리가 가능하다. 양자의 담론소통을 통하여 맥락존중의 연대성에서 타인의 존재차원까지 고려하고, 마침내 동일자와 타자, 주체와 대상의 순환소통을 기대할 수 있다. 현대의 윤리적 이기주의 풍조는 자기 동일시에 머물러 타자로 이행하지 못하였지만 맥락존중의 응답윤리는 객관성 확보를 위한 대안적 성격을 갖는다. 이처럼 현대윤리의 유용성을 강조하면서 사적(私的) 목적에 함몰되지 않고 감성응답의 공사공매(公私共媒)로 나아갈 수 있는 토대마련이 가능해진다. 아울러 실사구시의 신실용주의 관점에 기반 하면서 세계시민성을 향하는 세계윤리 구축과, 새로운 타자지향의 응답성 윤리의식을 아우르는 장점을 드러내어 이에 따른 윤리적 이타주의 배려의 코페르니쿠스적 전환이 될 것이다.
