This paper examined the relationship between social Change and the aiming for success in Japan. The main theme of this paper is to in-depth study on the socio-economic background of the aiming for success and the change after the rapid growth period by statistically analyzing the survey data of the 'Social Stratification and Social Mobility' in 1975 and 1995.
The main findings are as follows;
First, in the 1975 the aiming for success of under the 20's, 30's and 40's is similar but is higher than the 50's and over the 60's. The unique finding is that level of aiming of success among the 40's is similar to the younger generation of 20's and 30's. The generation of 40's have experienced both poverty and prosperity as defected nation and the rapid growth after. As consequences, that generation seems to have vivid experience during the development of Japan. Japanese have experienced of the upgrade in the level of the employment, education and the standard of living during the rapid growth period, so the 40's as well as 20's and 30's seems to place high value on the success.
Second, the result showed aiming for the success among the 20's is highest and the 50's is second highest in the 1995. The aiming for the success among the 50's is higher than the 30's and 40's. The interpretation of the result could be that 50's is the generation that experienced rapid development during their youth period as well as have enthusiasm for their career. They geared to future plan compared to present time. Therefore, it seems that the 50's has higher aiming for the success than the 30's and 40's those generation preferring relaxation and freedom of their own free time than hard working.
In Summary, experiencing rapid growth period of nation has a big impact on the aiming for the success among the Japanese and formed the basis of the configuration of the difference between the generations.
