The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the pitch identification ability of AP(absolute pitch) possessors on musical interval perception. The subjects of this study were comprised of 85 college students majoring in music. None of them was hearing impaired. The experiment was divided into the two parts, carried out within two sessions. The first session, aimed to find out AP possessors among the whole subjects. In this session, all the participants were required to listen to a certain musical tone and do the pitch-naming. Based on the result of the first experiment, the subjects were divided into the two groups; 1) the group with AP comprised of 15 (with more than 90% right answers), and 2) the group without AP comprised of 66 (with less than 90% right answers). Besides, four subjects who didn't participate the whole procedure had been excluded. In the second experiment designed to identify the interval perception of each group, subjects were asked to analyze the given compound interval and identify whether it consisted of the two same notes or not. Results found out that there was a significant difference between the two groups. In particular, for the intervals with the same starting note, the group with AP showed better performance than the other group. Therefore, this study showed that the pitch identification ability of AP possessors influenced on their musical interval perception.

이 연구의 목적은 절대음고 소유자의 음고식별 능력이 음정지각에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 것이었다. 연구의 대상은 전라북도에 소재한 ○○대학교 음악과에 재학 중인 85명의 학생들로 청각에 문제가 없는 학생을 대상으로 하였다. 실험은 대상자들의 음고식별 능력과 음정지각을 알아보기 위해 두 번의 세션으로 이루어졌다. 첫 번째 세션은 대상자의 음고식별 능력을 알아보기 위한 것으로 들려지는 음을 듣고 자신의 판단에 따라 음이름을 쓰도록 하였고, 이 세션을 통해 절대음고 집단(90%의 정답률)과 상대음고 집단을 나누어 두 번째 세션이 이루어졌다. 두 번째 세션은 두 집단의 음정지각을 알아보기 위한 것으로 두 음으로 구성된 화성 음정이 동일한 것인지를 판단하도록 하였다. 첫 번째 세션으로 대상자들 중 절대음고 집단은 15명(90%이상의 정답률), 상대음고 집단 66명(90%미만의 정답률)으로 분류하였으며, 나머지 4명은 중간에 답 적는 것을 포기하여 어느 집단에서도 제외되었다. 연구 결과 두 집단 간의 음정지각에 있어 유의한 차이를 보였고, 특히 시작음이 동일한 음정조건에서는 절대음고 집단이 상대음고 집단에 비해 높은 수행률을 보여주었다. 그러므로 이 연구의 결과는 절대음고 소유자의 음고식별 능력은 음정지각에 영향을 미친다는 것을 암시한다.
