In this paper, psychiatric disorders of children and adolescents were classified into externalizing and internalizing problems, and we reviewed respectively about the main cognitive-behavioral therapeutic techniques for treating those problems and the recent studies on the outcomes of treatments. It is suggested that the cognitive-behavioral therapy is effective in treating the internalizing problems such as depression and anxiety, whereas the treatment which takes parents and teachers into intervention is more effective in treating the externalizing problems such as ADHD, conduct disorder, and aggressive behavior than the cognitive-behavioral therapy alone. In this regard, the need to consider cognitive characteristics and developmental stages of the target population was discussed, and the further research for improving treatment effect was proposed.

본고에서는 인지행동적 치료접근의 초점이 되는 아동 청소년 정신장애를 외현화된 행동 문제들과 내현화된 문제들로 분류하여 개관하고, 그 대표적인 인지행동치료 기법과 치료의 효과에 관한 최근 연구 결과들을 소개하였다. 여러 연구들에 걸쳐 인지행동치료가 우울 및 불안과 같은 내면화된 문제에 효과적인 것으로 나타났지만, ADHD, 품행장애, 공격성 등 외현화된 행동 문제의 경우에는 인지행동치료를 단독으로 적용하는 것보다 부모와 교사를 치료에 포함시키는 개입이 보다 효과적일 가능성이 시사되었다. 이와 관련하여 치료에서 대상 집단의 인지적 특성과 발달단계를 고려해야 할 필요성을 논의하였으며, 추후 달성해야 할 과제를 제시하였다.
