However the existing state of the family is, or however our thought about marriage and family is, what is certain is that for us in the modern society, family discussion is formed in our everyday life and formed intimately. That is to say we think that we always live together and within the family. We also consider family as a very familiar notion. Because of this, we sometimes dream that there is an ideal ‘something’ that we want to put into the name of ‘family’. Then how should the ideal ‘something’ be prepared? It should not be made up of a notion that is equal or familiar with the original. It should be prepared in a way that is not restricted by blood relation and in separation of the discriminative element. I suggested these methods in the thesis through the Catholic ‘faithful’ family notion. I think that cooperation made through the Catholic belief and the following speculation about family will be a useful tactic to diffuse the meaning as an open-family. This kind of thought is based on the fact that the Catholic church has had a great interest in family and household traditionally and also recently the church has recognized the various forms of family problems and the diverse changes in Korea and is endeavoring to arrange an active plan for them. By the Catholic’s faithful family, we can make certain the unity expressed through alliance, relationship, accord and so on and strengthen them as well.

현존하는 가족의 상태가 어떠하든, 혹은 결혼과 가족에 대한 우리의 생각이 어떠하든 분명한 것은 현대 우리에게 가족 담론이 일상적이고 친근하게 형성되어 있다는 것이다. 즉 우리는 늘 가족과 더불어 가족 안에서 살아간다고 생각하며 가족을 매우 친숙한 개념으로 간주한다. 그래서 우리가 ‘가족’이라는 이름 안에 담고 싶어 하는 이상적인 ‘어떤 것’이 있다고 꿈꾼다. 그런데 그 이상적인 ‘어떤 것’은 어떻게 마련되어야 하는가? 본 고에서는 이를 혈연가족에 제한되지 않는 방식으로, 그리고 차별적 요소와 결별하는 형태로 마련되어야 한다고 말한다. 그리고 이를 가톨릭의 ‘믿음적’ 가족 개념을 통해 제시한다. 가톨릭의 신앙에 근거한 공동체 의식과 그에 따른 가족에 대한 사고가 열린 가족으로서의 의미를 확산시키는 데에 유용한 전략이 될 수 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. 이 같은 문제의식은 성경이 전통적으로 가족과 가정에 대하여 많은 관심을 가지고 있다는 것과 또한 가톨릭 교회가 최근 한국에서 일어나고 있는 여러 가지 형태의 가족 문제와 변화적 추이를 인식하고 이에 대한 적극적인 방안을 마련하고자 노력하고 있다는 사실에 근거하고 있다. 가톨릭 신앙 이론에 근거한 가족 개념을 통해 연대 의식, 유대감, 일체감 등으로 표현되는 가톨릭의 합일성을 확인하고 강화할 수 있으며, 또한 보다 큰 공동체를 구성하는 원동력으로 만들 수도 있다.
