The interest in the ‘difference’ is gradually growing by pluralization of society. In modern society was the ‘difference’ direct connected with the ‘discrimination’ by distribution of civil rights and duties. This situation was not limited in multiracial nations. In korean society in which man takes a racially homogeneous nation or a homogeneous blood for granted, the distribution is discriminative, and the ‘discrimination’ is based upon ‘difference’ or ‘dissimilarity’. The criterion of the ‘dissimilarity’ is always the value that is founded on the views of the majority, and their values are all the time a leading moral value for social integration. This value for social integration makes the peoples who are different from ‘we’ to an ‘Another’, and they as the ‘minority’ can’t have a share of equal rights and duties. Today so called the trend of postmodernism denies an uniform line of thinking and further maximize ‘difference’. The individual person and the small groups don’t make an effort any more to adjust oneself to the social objective value. Instead they insist on their special identity and value. This phenomenon of the social pluralization seems like a threat to social integration and further to power of stats. In the face of this reality man takes notice of the interest of the minority who are alienated and marginalized by the majority, and their claim for recognition has became the problem of social structure and system. In plural society can’t be the interest and needs of “an Another in We” any more disregarded. In this paper the knowledge is premised that the identity- speciation of social members is not a element for a hindrance the social integration, on the contrary the mechanism of social integration obstruct the way to the plural democracy. Accordingly, in this paper I seek to analyze the social mechanism, which makes an ‘Another’, and to reflect on a discourse on the method for recognition of an Another. I think that this study should be a task of the philosophy and the social ethic for forming a plural democratic society.

사회가 다원화되면서 ‘차이’에 대한 관심은 점차 증가되고 있다. 모던사회에서 ‘차이’는 곧바로 사회 구성원의 권리를 분배하는 데 있어서 ‘차별’로 이어졌다. 이런 현상은 다민족사회 안에서만 일어나는 일은 아니다. 단일민족이나 단일혈통을 당연한 것으로 받아들이는 한국사회 안에서도 분배는 차별적이었고, 차별은 ‘차이’ 내지는 ‘다름’에 근거하고 있었다. ‘다름’의 기준은 언제나 ‘다수자’의 가치관에 입각한 견해였고, 이들의 가치관은 늘 사회를 통합하는 주도적인 도덕적 가치였다. 이 사회 통합의 가치들은 ‘우리’와 다른 사람들을 ‘타자’로 만들었고, 그들은 다수자에 억눌린 소수자로서 인간의 평등한 권리를 분배받지 못했다. 오늘날 이른바 포스트모던의 경향은 모던의 획일적 사고방식을 거부하고 ‘차이’를 극대화시킨다. 개인과 소집단들은 더 이상 사회의 객관적이고 주도적인 가치에 자신을 맞추고자 노력하지 않는다. 그 대신 그들은 자신들의 특수한 정체성과 가치를 주장한다. 이런 사회의 다원화 현상은 사회의 단합을 위협하고 더 나아가 국가의 권력을 약화시키는 것으로 보인다. 이에 따라 다수자에 의해 소외당하고 주변화되었던 소수자들의 관심은 주목을 받게 되었고, 그들의 인정 요구는 사회 구조와 제도의 문제로 부각되고 있다. 다원주의사회는 이제 ‘우리 안의 타자’의 관심과 욕구들을 더 이상 외면할 수 없게 되었다. 본 논문은 사회 구성원의 정체성 분화를 사회의 통합을 저해하는 요소로 보기보다는, 오히려 사회 통합의 메커니즘이 다원적 민주사회로 나아가는 길을 막고 있다는 인식을 전제로 한다. 따라서 본 논문은 ‘타자’들이 만들어지는 사회적 메커니즘을 분석하고, 그 내용을 토대로 ‘타자’를 인정하는 방식에 대한 담론을 성찰해 보고자 한다. 이는 다원적 민주사회를 만들어 가는 철학과 사회윤리의 과제라고 여겨진다.
