The basic objectives of this study were : to analyze the current state of rural labor shortage problem by the scale cultivated land in 2006, and to make a few suggestions on how this rural labor shortage problem could be alleviated.
In order to achieve these objectives, raw data were collected 123s farming households in 2006, which were selected based on four criteria, namely 1) islands, 2) mountainous area, 3) open field area, and 4) suburban area.
The major results of this study could be summarized as follows; ① The number of labor force is decreasing in the rural communities. Besides, the quality of labor force available is deterioration as well in terms of age, sex and educational level.
② Educational and training programs of young people on actual farms are necessary to improve the quality of new farmers. ③ New development of farming machines which meet the particular needs in various farming conditions is highly organizations such as women's club, youth fellowship, etc. should be developed in the rural area.
