A patternal or compositional matter, that a narrative and a fiction etc got joined together and made, got show a mutiplex shape in the latter term of chosun dynasty. That times, various styles were mingled together in the insides of Chinese prose writings. On the other hands, in the outsides, Chinese prose writings have opened up a new ground to interact with the Korean prose. Being connected with these, the work is ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ that this paper will study on.
｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ is a short story that Kim Gi(金琦:1722-1794), a intellectual being out of power, writed in 18th. From now on, ｢Hwangseng-jeon)｣ have syudied on Kim Gi's authorial consciousness, partly. There isn't the syudy on ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣, itself.
｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ is the work that keeps up mostly the patternal frame of discussing narretion. Other hands, ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ is the work that makes a test on the fictitious narration as various patterns. Fundamentally, a disposition of the personality-Cheon(傳) appears in ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ over all, seeing that ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ describes a biography of what one is Hwangseng(黃生). Then ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ is free iteself from the a category of Cheon's style, in the point that a hero, Hwangseng is the hero who not only exsist historically but also inventd fictitious. On the other hands, it is questions and answers discussing what takes up much space in ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣'s constitution. These directivity to the fiction appearing in ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣ is simillar to the patternal distinction of novel.
This syudy intends to the interioral study on ｢Hwangseng-jeon｣. This paper will look into minutely the narrative organization. And secondly, the point od this study is the patternal characteristics.

조선 후기에는 한문 산문 내부에서도 다기한 양식들이 한데 뒤섞이고, 그 외부의 국문 산문과의 상호 작용 속에서 서사의 새로운 경지를 개척해 나가면서 서사, 허구, 교술 등이 어우러져 만들어 내는 양식 및 구성적 특징의 문제는 보다 복잡한 양상을 띠게 된다. 이러한 문제와 관련하여 본 고가 주목해 보고자 하는 작품이 바로 ｢황생전｣이다.
｢황생전｣은 전(傳)과 의론체 산문의 양식적 틀을 최대한 유지하면서도 허구적 서사성을 다양한 방식으로 형상화 한 작품이다. 기본적으로는 황생이라는 인물의 일대기를 그리고 있는 것으로 보아 인물전(人物傳)의 성향이 강하게 나타난다. 그런데 주인공 황생이 실제 조선조 역사 속에서 실존했던 인물이 아니라 허구적으로 창조된 인물이라는 점에서 ｢황생전｣은 거사직서(據事直書)를 본령으로 하는 전(傳) 양식의 바운더리를 벗어나 있다. 한편 ｢황생전｣의 전체 구성의 대부분을 차지하고 있는 것은 교술적 산문의 양식에 속하는 의론체 문답이다. 중편 이상의 소설 작품 속에 의론체 문답이라는 것이 본래 작가의 담론을 작품 속에서 형상화 하기 위해 차용되는 형식이라고 할 때, 상대적으로 단편 소설의 분량인 ｢황생전｣에서 의론체 문답이 절반 이상의 분량을 차지한다는 사실은 ｢황생전｣의 장르적 속성이 허구적 서사성과 교술적 산문성이 양극단을 이루는 스펙트럼 속에서 어느 지점에 위치해 있는가 하는 문제를 불러일으키기 충분하다. 이처럼 ｢황생전｣이 한문산문의 전통을 변주하는 지향성의 끝에는 소설이란 장르가 위치한다.
본 연구는 ｢황생전｣은 한문 산문의 다양한 양식적 전통을 배경으로 하여 이러한 소설 지향성을 어떻게 획득해 내고 있는가 하는 점을 첫째, 서사 구성 및 갈등 구조, 둘째, 양식적 특징에 대한 자세한 고찰을 통해 밝혀보고자 한다.
