This essay is to study the ethical character of Hwa-Eom, introduced by Silla's Monks in China. In particular, there are three important monks: Won-Gwang, Ja-Jang, and Eui-Sang. Their influence on Silla in the context of unification is as follows:
Firstly, the purpose of monks pilgrimage from Silla to China was only to unify Korean Peninsula. That means their work was to lead the nations of Silla to live ethically, because of continuous war. For Won-Gwang, he introduced bodhisattva commandments into Silla society.
Therefore, most people in Silla could have the ground of understanding the depth of Buddhism
Secondly, the buddhist thought of Hwa-Eom in China was transformed and developed on the two specific bases of Silla. One is Silla's capacity to live as buddhist by Won-Gang, and the other is Silla's harmony between traditional faiths and Hwa-Eom.
Finally, the idea of Eka-yana in Hwa-Eom had the most important role of solving the social disorder, caused by war for unification, and of unite people together. It was Eui-Sang who tried to enable them to live in united society, based on buddhist ethics of Eka-yana.

이번 연구는 통일기 신라 출신의 구법승들의 중국 내 구법활동에 있어서 구법 화엄불교의 신라적 정착과 윤리적 성격을 탐구하는데 있다. 이를 토대로 이번 연구는 다음과 같은 결과를 갖는다.
첫째, 당시 구법승들이 대부분 신라의 지배계급 출신이었다는 공통점을 갖지만, 통일이라는 국가적 과제를 해결하고자 했다. 이러한 노력의 근본적인 토대가 바로 신라인들의 삶을 보다 고차원
적으로 이끄는 것이었다. 그 대표적인 실례가 원광의 보살계사상의 신라적 적용이었다.
둘째, 당시 구법 화엄불교의 신라적 정착은 크게 두 가지 방향에서 전개되었다. 첫째, 원광의 보살계사상의 신라적 적용으로 인해 이미 신라인들이 불교적 삶을 영위할 능력을 갖추고 있었고, 둘째, 신라 고유의 전통신앙과의 조화를 통해 정착될 수 있었다.
마지막으로, 통일기 신라의 구법 화엄불교는 모든 신라인들의 삶의 혼란을 하나로 묶는 一乘의 역할을 담당했다. 특히 이러한 시대적인 바탕에서 신라인들의 윤리적 삶을 이끌어야 했던 인물이 바로 의상이었던 것이다.
