This paper is an attempt to make a detailed analysis of one of Le Corbusier’s later works, the
unique House of Youth and Culture in Firminy, France, and treat it as a valuable reference point.
An analysis of the visual composition and architectural location in terms of urban planning will be
derived from the site plan. Through an analysis of the work’s plans and sections discussion will focus upon functionality, circulation and structure as well as the process by which a sense of space is formed. This analysis will also pursue an understanding of the creative process by which architectural form is created by using the elevation plan. This paper will also illustrate from an architectural perspective how Le Corbusier adhered to his own consistent principles, incorporated the repetition of undulating windows , and contented himself with dividing space within a single mass. With regards to the facilities this paper will also focus on the way consideration is given for the characteristic activities of the youth through open connections between different functions. The building’s simultaneous usage takes diverse forms, namely entertainment, lectures, relaxation, etc. and contributes to the creation of multi-purpose spaces.
In addition, the vertically oriented feeling of space gives the users further consideration and lead to the dramatic evolution of the exterior form. This paper proposes that the architectural concept behind this youth center and designed by one of modern architecture’s greatest practitioners will be a vital point of reference for designers of youth centers today.

르 꼬르뷔지에의 후기 작품의 하나이며 유일한 청소년 시설인 피르미니의 청소년 문화 센터로부터 참조점을 찾기 위해 작품에 대한 상세한 분석을 시도하였다. 배치계획으로서 도시계획상의 건축입지와 시각구조를 분석하고, 평면, 단면의 분석으로 기능과 동선 및 구조와 공간형성 과정을 알아보며, 입면계획을 분석하여 건축형태의 생성 과정을 추적하였다. 그 결과, 건축적 측면에서 르 꼬르뷔지에 자신의 일관된 건축 원칙을 상당부분 고수하고 있으며, 후기작품에서 보이는 모듈로, 파동창을 반복 계획하고 있고, 자기 충족적인 단일 매스 안에서 공간을 분할하는 특유의 계획 경향을 보이고 있음을 밝혔다. 청소년 시설 측면에서는 기능간의 개방적 연결을 통하여 청소년의 활동 특성을 감안한 건축적 고려를 주목할 수 있었고, 이용자의 다양한 형태, 즉 관람, 강의, 휴식 등을 동시에 할 수 있는 다목적의 공간을 창출하였고, 수직적으로 개방된 공간감을 조성하여 청소년의 의지를 건축적으로 고양시키는 동시에 외부형태를 드라마틱하게 형성하였음을 밝혔다. 근대건축 거장이 이룬 청소년 시설의 한 건축 개념이 오늘날의 청소년 시설 건축계획에 상당한 참조가 되리라고 생각된다.
