This study examined the relationships among maternal depressive symptoms, rejective parenting attitudes, and young children’s emotion regulation, and investigated the mediating role of rejective parenting attitudes in the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms and young children’s emotion regulation. Participants were 383 mothers of 4- and 5-year-old children enrolled in early childhood education institutions in City B, Korea. All measures were completed by the mothers, including maternal ratings of their children’s emotion regulation. Data were collected through an online survey and analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.2. The results were as follows. First, maternal depressive symptoms were positively correlated with rejective parenting attitudes and negatively correlated with young children’s emotion regulation. Rejective parenting attitudes were also negatively correlated with young children’s emotion regulation. Second, the indirect effect of rejective parenting attitudes on the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms and young children’s emotion regulation was statistically significant. Specifically, maternal depressive symptoms were positively associated with rejective parenting attitudes, which in turn were negatively associated with young children’s emotion regulation. In contrast, the direct effect of maternal depressive symptoms on young children’s emotion regulation was not statistically significant after rejective parenting attitudes were included in the model.

본 연구는 어머니의 우울감, 거부적 양육태도 및 유아의 정서조절능력 간의 관계를 살펴보고, 어머니의 우울감과 유아의 정서조절능력 간의 관계에서 거부적 양육태도의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 B시 소재 유아교육기관에 재원 중인 만 4·5세 유아를 둔 어머니 383명이었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 29.0과 PROCESS Macro 4.2를 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 어머니의 우울감은 거부적 양육태도와 유의한 정적 상관을 보였으며, 유아의 정서조절능력과는 유의한 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 또한 거부적 양육태도는 유아의 정서조절능력과 유의한 부적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 어머니의 우울감과 유아의 정서조절능력 간의 관계에서 거부적 양육태도의 간접효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 어머니의 우울감은 거부적 양육태도와 정적으로 연결되었고, 거부적 양육태도는 유아의 정서조절능력과 부적으로 연결되었다. 반면 거부적 양육태도를 모형에 포함한 이후 어머니의 우울감과 유아의 정서조절능력 간의 직접효과는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 어머니의 우울감과 유아의 정서조절능력 간의 관계를 이해하는 데 있어 어머니의 심리적 상태뿐만 아니라 부모-자녀 상호작용에서 나타나는 거부적 양육태도의 역할을 함께 고려할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
