This study examined the effects of hair softening knowledge on hair perm utilization and procedure satisfaction among 285 hair beauty professionals while investigating the mediating effect of hair perm utilization. Hair softening knowledge consisted of hair knowledge, perm agent composition, and softening mechanism, while hair perm utilization was divided into knowledge utilization and technical utilization. The results showed that all three factors of hair softening knowledge had significant positive effects on both knowledge and technical utilization, with perm agent composition showing the strongest effect. Hair perm utilization also had a significant positive effect on hair perm procedure satisfaction. Furthermore, the Sobel test confirmed significant mediating effects of hair perm utilization in the relationships between hair knowledge, perm agent composition, softening mechanism, and procedure satisfaction. These findings indicate that not only theoretical knowledge of hair and perm agents but also the ability to apply such knowledge effectively in actual procedures is important for improving procedure satisfaction. Therefore, systematic and practice-oriented education on hair softening knowledge and its application must be strengthened to enhance the professional competence of hair beauty practitioners.
