This study aimed to visualize the four universal basic human emotions—joy, sadness, anger, and fear—through formative nail art works based on the theoretical foundations of Paul Ekman’s basic emotion theory and color psychology. For this purpose, the psychological characteristics of each emotion were analyzed, and a total of four nail art works were created using formative elements such as color, line, texture, three-dimensional embellishments, and surface composition. Joy was expressed through clear, champagne gold, rose gold, and pearl white tones, together with crystals and holographic materials, to represent expanding delight and the crystallization of light. Sadness was visualized through deep navy, indigo blue, gray, and black tones, along with marbling, water-drop effects, and crack-like lines, reflecting emotions that gradually permeate the inner self. Anger was represented through burgundy, oxblood, and black tones, combined with rough marbling, splatter effects, and fragmented decorative elements to convey explosiveness and lingering intensity. Lastly, fear was expressed through achromatic colors such as dark charcoal, gray, and black, together with dark marbling, chains, and black forms to embody anxiety and the threat of the unknown. The findings confirm that color psychology and formative language can be effectively applied to the visualization of emotions, and that formative nail art can be expanded beyond its decorative function to serve as an artistic medium for expressing psychological meaning and the symbolic nature of human emotions.
